Yeah true, but that fail comment was I think really inappropriate. Anyway, I don't really know how many social websites there are, and I really don't care. I just try to do my best, but you have to understand that for now there is just me and few other guys. If you or anybody else wanna contribute somehow, please feel free to contact me.

If you don't know how many other social networking sites that are out there already, you need to stop developing your site right now.

Before you even launch a product, you NEED to do research on it and wireframe your idea. Have a focus for your social networking site to set it apart from those already developed.

Do you want your target audience to be 13-17? Female Doctors? 25+ year old gamers? Architects? WHAT is the PURPOSE of the site? Don't just make it to make it.

Just having you and a few other guys doesn't mean diddly squat. You can be a one man show and all the other opinions given here are still just as good as if you had a firm of 25 people working on this.

Actually, it is on the place, because the ratio of the "dudes" is EXACTLY, pixel by pixel same as the one's from myspace logo. You used the same "dudes', you just placed them in a different layout.

That's like taking the "Nike" swoosh logo, flipping it vertically and saying that it's your logo, it just resembles the one from Nike.

Here's a comparation:

I know you are on your own making this site, but visual identity is something that you had to think about FIRST, before even designing the website or tweaking some template. Logo is something you will be recognized about. You could have used different type of "dude" or a human silhouete to make it slightly different, but you've just used the myspace dude.

CSI Neowin ;]

Anyway, big plus for south neighbours for trying lol.

Eh, don't let the naysayers get you down -- with a little work, you can turn this into a site with purpose.

You just need the right target audience. I'd forget about trying to be a mainstream social network like facebook or myspace; there are far too many clones of that already.

Instead, I'd try to make the focus on a certain demographic like musicians for example. You could let it be a place where musicians connect, and share music, events, etc.

That's just an example. Do a little research and be creative, good luck!;)

+1.

Good luck, mate!

Nooooo you mixed up CSI:NY and CSI:Miami. Not as funny if you're not using Horatio, lol. That and 'yeaaaah' is for Miami.

/csinerd

I'm aware of that, but I just altered the original file with this meme, which also has them mixed :(

This is just for you:)

Thank you very much :), I really appreciate your attitude. Truth is that I am really interested into mainstream social networking, but I was thinking about next steps which could be some combination of linkedin ideology to offer proffesionals place to present themselves.

Ok, I know how many networks there but most of them are not interesting for me.

Unless you implement a REST api such as opensocial you are already behind the big players.

Time will show, actually and I think I have already mentioned it I am preparing at least one killer function so I believe it can establish strong position between current big players.

erm, you need developer support and for that you will need to implement a REST-like api, and why reinvent the wheel if an open solution exists. It's as simple as that.

I am getting your point. Maybe it is because I love to design applications and this is kinda my hobby I would like to share with you :). Anyway, try to use it and I believe you will like it.

you are gonna need to implement and advetise some function which does not exist or is not advertised on other social networks... sharing pictures and videos are overdone by now, so its going to have to be something else

it doesnt hurt to be able to use some open authentication or something...

also, geolocation seems to be the hot thing nowadays, maybe you should look into it?

I was considering a mobile platform as well and I think that is the future and geolocation too. Maybe later this year I will be able to introduce this function.

Anyway, if anybody would like to participate just contact me any kind of help is great.

Kay, Design is fine sofar... Not so sure about the search area though - Feels really out of place.

other than that I just don't want to sign up for one prime reason; I really don't see any screenshots other than this:

Screen+shot+2010-03-28+at+10.16.52+PM.png

No examples. no demo.. Natta.. So Maybe you should make it when you click this you can have a little preview of the site in a mini Javascript window.

now this can be a static image or you can load the demo page in the javascript window and let users demo out the site.. This will definitely win over some viewers.

Good Luck (Y)

@Jase - Do you think that some kind of tour would be ok?

Yeah, well that's what I thought that page was for.. but it really didn't provide me with enough details that made me interested in signing up.

If you actually want to make this somewhat successful you have a lot to learn about marketing and branding. You should create a company profile and define your target market and competitors. Ask yourself why should someone bother joining?

Of course if all you care about is making it then it does't really matter... just don't expect anything.

I'll put in my 2 cents:

As far as social networking sites go, I definitely agree that getting in to the mainstream will be almost too challenging. There needs to be something new, something that no other social networking site does, in order for us to consider joining. I notice that you haven't given any details regarding your "big feature" that you're in the process of implementing, and while this may be a safe move on your part, without an idea of what it is we have no incentive to join the site at this time.

Spelling and grammar. They really need improving on the website. I can put up with poor spelling and grammar on a forum (goodness knows I make enough mistakes myself), but if I am trying to take a website seriously then I don't want to see errors. It doesn't look professional, and it makes me question how safe it is.

The logo needs to go. Again, several people have already pointed out the striking resemblance to the MySpace logo, and for me personally that makes me want to run in the other direction. I no longer use MySpace, and the idea of using it or a clone puts me right off.

I think there needs to be a tour of some sort, or perhaps an example profile page. Something that would allow me to look at how the site would be should I go through the signup process.

Finally, a tip that I think is more for you than the website. You need to think about where this is going now, before you go further. There's no point in just deciding to create a site and seeing where it goes. You need to have a goal to aim for, and you need to set out a plan as to how you're going to achieve that. If you're just doing this because you enjoy creating things then good for you, but don't expect people to jump on board with the idea. If, on the other hand, you're creating this with the idea of it taking off, you need to sit down and decide how you're going to get that happening before you continue with this, because in it's current state I can't see it rivalling the big names.

A short video might do the trick.

First of all, thank you very much for your post :)

I know that this would be a real challenge to get into mainstream of social networking but I like challenges.

Native language of application as well as mine is Slovak, current translatations are beta versions and I am updating and fixig them continuously, if anybody would like to participate it would be awesome

Actually you can try to look at mine own profile on http://www.gigacast.net/hack2er
