Again, many people don't go by review scores. We all know that 70% is not a great review by any means. However, it seems FFXIII is getting consistent mediocre reviews around the web, including from users who have already played the game in Japan.

Has any of this changed your mind as to whether or not you will buy this game?

On Neowin? Usually if you game doesn't get 90+ it's not worth playing, then if it does get 90+ it's also overrated :p

Haha I know what you mean, but for a FF title this is surprising, from FF7, look at the reviews all have got up to 10.

Looks like Square might have their first mediocre mainstream FF game in the west for once.

Well, it seems that when a bad review comes, people pipe up and say "I don't buy my games based on review scores", etc. So is it the lack of side quests and the linear aspect of the game that is punishing it?

Seems to be linear aspect and lifeless towns/NPCs, or lack of towns/NPCs pretty much at all.

Most people like the past openness of FF, the hidden bosses/quests/items/etc.

It sounds like FF13 has been dumbed down for a 13 year old and even that's an insult to 13 year olds, I wasn't much older when I had my first playthrough FF7.

I cant believe this, i seriously cant.. I'm a massive FF fan played through 7,8,9 so many times, 8 being my favourite, but this is seriously giving me second thoughts on buying it for ?40 on release..

No, but I am not hyped for it at all.

I also don't go by the scores. But I do read to see what they have put in for the cons. I usually make my own opinion on based on what the pro and cons are. Now if there biggest issue is that is doesn't have the past openness of the previous games i would have to agree. For me this is what I really loved about the FF series.

For me, FF games have always been about a great emotional story and memorable characters. I think for me, FF IX was the last time that happened for me.

Many people saw FF X as that, but unfortunately I didn't.

I could care less about scores because there have been many games i thought were amazing that were given low scores.

Yet it had a number attached to it

You know what I'm talking about the games that are SP games, the mainstream titles, I'd hardly class a subscription based MMO one of the usual FF titles.

If you're talking about single player FF games, then there are more than enough non-numbered FF games that are more than mediocre, borderline terrible

I'm talking about the mainstream FF games, how hard is that to understand?

6/7/8/9/10/10-2/12/13/13 Versus

I wouldn't call X-2 "mainstream" by a longshot, and that game is really terrible

and noone knows anything about Versus to even say anything LOL

And why leave out the NES title? That were pretty mainstream back in the day

I gave up looking at game reviews a long time ago.

For me game has to have a "fun factor" it has it or it doesn't.

Final Fantasy always experimenting with it's combat / game system, but almost always does great with the music, characters, plot, etc.

I'm not saying anything I'm just listing the mainstream titles.

As for X-2, still critically received well - http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/finalfantasyx2/

Well the characters and plot are getting attacked in the reviews basically due to their being no towns and very little NPCs to interact with.

I've yet to read the review, but not canceling my pre-order just because some reviewers are comparing the game to an older generation type of RPGs.

Yes, I'm purely buying this cause its part of the FF series, I maybe disappointent, but I doubt it.

I'm sure I'll enjoy the story, I'm a lazy person who cba to read, so I also enjoy an interactive linear game :D from time to time

I'm still looking forward to this, but the lack of towns and NPCs is undoubtedly a massive black mark against the game. Whoever decided that was a good idea needs to be flogged.

I'll still be picking it up day one (on the PS3) since I'm a massive JRPG nut, but I won't deny that my expectations have lowered considerably.
