Final Fantasy XIII 70% Review Score PSM3

Btw this game is hardly dumbed down. it is THE hardest FF ever released in terms of battle difficulty. you will die many times throughout the first play through until you master the battle system and even then sometimes get surprised and get worked on.

story/plot/characters don't need npcs to interact with. they are fleshed out fully amongst eachother through the situations they are put in.

all the negative things in this game are laughable. just because a NEW game doesn't have was a OLD game had people bitch. its a new generation, move on. enjoy what you have been given because it is amazing. DLC will probably give some extra missions and replay incentive as well.

that being said, well worth the import cost and pending domestic purchase :D love this game.

Well the characters and plot are getting attacked in the reviews basically due to their being no towns and very little NPCs to interact with.

That a bit of a surprise, but still going to buy it new on release and give it a shot. The PS3 Japanese RPG lack of selection are that way, if not, there an stargetic role playing game which I don't like.

Have to agree with you there, strategic RPGs are not my cuppa tea also...

IMO

FF7 Awesome. A little dark. Emotionally engaging. Massive amounts of hidden and optional content. Excellent re-playability. (Cause of many arguments and many friendships)

FF8 Great Story, great mini games, slightly annoying (at first) combat mechanics (draw 100 of something from some low level mob then just whack everything else with your mighty sword!)

FF9 Thought it was rubbish on the first play. Second play through put this game on my shelf of OMFGAwesome games. Ozma weapon was a p**sy. Loved the Chocobo mini game. The black mage village still puts a lump in my throat :'(

FF10 Hrrrrm, pretty cool story line, pretty cool mini games, battle system was ok (art on some of the models was...wtf? What the hell happened to bahamut? 7,8,9 = Big scary dragon. 10 = Some kind of parrot).

No world map screen annoyed the **** out of me and my friends. Tidus was a bit of a whiny **** at the beginning, but that was part of the whole character progression thing.

FF11 Well, tried it but couldn't do FA without a big group of friends. Killed a couple of Bees, couldn't buy anything, couldn't sell anything...did a bit of fishing.

FF12 Voice acting made me gag. Couldn't play it for more than a couple of hours.

Recently picked it up again thanks to the UnDub version (Jap audio, Eng Subs) and the fact that I can run it flawlessly on my PC with pcsx2 and employ all the AA and ATF that a moderm GFX card can throw at it ^^

FF13 I have tried to keep myself in the dark about the game as much as possible. Trying to keep it a surprise.

For this game to be a success:

Characters will not be Emo twats/Yaoi fodder (Square, stop trying to target audiences and just create an engaging story)

The voice acting will not be overwritten by idiot Americans (Or at least it must be done by people with some talent).

Battle system must not subtract from the story. The story and the characters should be paramount, not secondary to some hack and slash/beat-em-up.

Some aspects of the story and the characters should be left open to player interpretation. (People love 7 so much because it means something different to everyone)

Try getting the Excalibur 2. If you can get to and beat Lich on disk 4 in 12 hours that is.

We hear the same thing, over and over again, with each and every new Final Fantasy release. It's been like that for as long as I can remember. "FF-7 is crap compared to FF-6". "FF-8 is crap". "FF-9 is uter-crap", etc.... still, surprisingly, every time, those games sell millions of copy and I enjoy each and every one of them tremendously.

People just don't know how to enjoy some things anymore. I'll gladly get FF-XIII the week of its release and I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it a lot, as always.

I'm still getting it but in my mind, I think I already know this game won't come close to being as good as Mass Effect (1 and 2) storywise.

Seems like western developers have taken over RPGs now. Hasn't been a single JRPG in YEARS that I've actually been able to play through. I was really hoping that the story in FF13 would be good even if the gameplay is linear but a lot of people on GAF are saying the story is probably one of the weakest parts of the game.

BioShock 2 came out today. I must buy that instead of reading about Final Fantasy.:shiftyninja: brb.

I used to love FF games. But I have grown weary of them. I guess the critics are too.

Wasn't hyped for FF XIII anyway, but the reviews I've seen have made my mind up. If it was good then I'm sure the score would have been boosted to generate some sort of excitement? Specially with a FF game, anyway. Just wondering if the reviewers are actually being generous :/

That's just sentiment between the fans, for once this is a FF game scoring fairly poorly out the gates compared to the others.

It all depends on the person. At least that is what I believe. Race Pro 09 has crap ratings, yet I love the game. To each their own I guess.

Remember FFX and FFX-2? They already have... twice.

I'm talking critically, doesn't matter what a game scores someone will always hate it, this is mainstream press scoring...

FFX - 92 - http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps2/finalfantasyx

And I posted 10-2 earlier, 85.

That's a matter of opinion. I never got around to playing X-2, but FFX was by far my favorite of the FF series. I remember coming home from working a 16 hour shift and playing it until 2-3 hours before the start of my next shift, getting a nap, going to work, and repeating the whole process. FFX completely captivated me. It was visually stunning, had an engaging story, great memorable characters (yes, even tidus became cool as the story progressed), and was just plain fun to play. I can understand it wasn't everybody's cup of tea, but it probably saw more play time on my ps2 than anything else, and I put a LOT of time into GT3, and Disgaea
