OOOOOOOO
I got one this weekend finally. Right now there are so few games that interest me at all on this console. I mainly bought this for God of War, MGS 4 and possibly heavy rain depending on how well the demo for it is. Let me start off by saying this, I am not an xbox or wii fanboi so no one will think I am I being biased about the recent purchase. As for as games go I hate sports games because its the samething year after year, I hate FPS with a passion and feel that the Halo franschise is the most overrated golden turd of game that ever existed. I have all my GH and RB stuff on the 360 so no point in buying all that gear and games over again on a different console. I already have ninja gaiden on the 360 so no point in getting it again. If any one can suggest some games worth buying for $30 or less that would be a big help. Right now my biggest issue aside from the lack of games is that the system refuses to do 1080p eventhough my 360 does it. I am not talking about how it changes certain games from 720p but just when loading up the system, its wont go past 1080i. When 1080p is selected it says not supported. Which is crazy because my 360 does this just fine so why not the ps3? I am hoping someone can help with this issue. My tv is a samsung LA52A850 so I know it should do 1080p just fine. Your 360 makes you think you're seeing 1080p games. You're not. You're seeing a 1080p image ... but it's likely just an upscaled 600p image or something :p Games consoles aren't quite powerful enough to do the latest games at a true 1080p :) PS3 lets you select your screen res from the system settings. The PS3 is far more controllable in terms of the options allowed to you.
forster
You bought a PS3 to play 3 games, 2 of which arent even out yet and you are so suprised that you're underwhelmed that you have to make a forum post about it here? Had you given it another 2-3 months for the games which you wanted to play to come out, you would be feeling a lot happier. You say you have a big back catalogue of games on the 360, and tops MGS4 is going to last you 15-20 hours, then sit there like a paperweight until GoW and Heavy Rain comes out. Do the math on what you have spent just to play 3 games of which 1 is only currently available. Now dont get me wrong, I did the same. Ive also got a large 360 collection, and bought a PS3 just to play MGS4 and when Id completed MGS4 I sold the PS3. I also imported my first PS3 from Japan before it came out in the UK just so I could see what all the fuss was about, and yeah, I sold it after a few months. At the moment I have a PS3 and Im getting a nice back catalogue of games and classics, as well as games from the PSN store, admittedly some are FPS games that you dont like and the rest are mostly multi platform releases that I didnt pick up on the 360, but if you buy something to play a game that isnt out and feel underwhelmed, Im suprised that you'd even admit it. Gotenks98
I don't know why you experienced a change in your resolution with a new cable. Any HDMI cable supports 1080p. You can even use component cables for 1080p games. Actually there are different HDMI standards. Depending on the standard used there is only so much bandwidth that cable can use. The higher the standard the more bandwidth you get and need to be compliant with that standard. Its just that the ps3 is anal like that for some reason. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hdmi#Versions http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1080p http://www.playstation-3-forums.com/1080p-problem-ps3-or-my-tv I found these 3 pages to be extremely helpful in fixing this issue. After looking at my options more I think I did good getting a ps3 now. Many of the 3rd party games offer certain features that are only available on certain consoles so this will always allow me to pick the better game whether its on the 360 or the ps3. I gave the Heavy Rain demo a try and its definately something I want to get but once the price goes down to $30. I tried Dante's inferno while it is a huge GoW clone I think it might be worth getting but on the ps3 because the Divine Edition comes with free DLC where as the 360 version doesnt. I think its just going to take awhile for good games to come out that I can enjoy.

I am aware of the different standards. The PS3 must be pretty darn picky then. Granted, I have the newest HDMI cables. http://store.apple.com/us/product/TR837LL/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY Meets the latest HDMI 1.3 specifications and delivers the maximum bandwidth for all resolutions up to 1080p and beyond
