still1
I was looking at the PS memory setting and it says 80/111 gb(120 gb slim version). 31GB assigned for all my games and stuffs but when i added up all the games(demos),game data and all the application(PS3 Home) its 18Gb. So where did my 13Gb go? Any Idea? Is it OS itself?
KoL Veteran Posted February 11, 2010 Veteran Share Posted February 11, 2010 Home, Life, OS maybe?
intrinity1
Maybe it doesn't show the game installs that you have to do for each game you put in before playing.
I8PP
PS3 probably reserves a chunk of HDD space for its own use, just like the 360.
Xerxes
PS3 probably reserves a chunk of HDD space for its own use, just like the 360. Yeah pretty much. The PS3 uses for system files, updates, and caching etc and also don't forget your 120Gb HDD isn't actually 120Gb but ~114Gb too.
pisty
i had 40 gbs of space in my ps3 but know what i did? i backed it up and i bought a 500 gbs hard disk and replaced it in my ps3 so now it seems like whatever i do i never run out of space and i'd like to believe that my ps3 runs smoother ! it's not that expensive to do, give it some thought
theclueless
120GB advertised it is actually 120,000,000,000 bytes, which OS will recognized as 111.7587 GB
still1
Home, Life, OS maybe? I counted in the Home space as well. Yeah pretty much. I went in each folder to count the space. It look odd because 13 Gb for running an OS is a too high.
spacer
Don't forget that actual gigabytage is usually less than advertised because marketing people are stupid.
Corris Veteran Posted February 11, 2010 Veteran Share Posted February 11, 2010 I can't think of anything that would be taking up that extra space. So the only reasonable explanation is that you've missed counting something, or can't add. :p
Hedon
Nah, Sony uses some good space, no question. My 40gb model only had 30gb available when I bought it.

pjak
on the PS3, 10gb is reserved for the XMB Operating System... on phat models, you can choose to reserve another 10gb for Linux...
