WoW for the first time.

Recommended Posts

Couple of people in my class always go on about there raids in WoW, and how epic there game last night was, so i decided to get the free trial.

So after getting the trial i was unsure of what class/build to make so i just went with a human paladin, sounded simple enough for a beginner. Anyway long story short...

I bought the full game today from game for ?9, i came home and went to upgrade where it then tells me that the authentication code is already in use!.

The game was deffinitaly brand new, so i contacted Blizzard and im still waiting for a response..

Has anybody else had a problem like this?

When vanguard came out a whole batch of them that were sent to my local game store had their product keys stolen before they reached the store location.

@ Sethos - I've still got the reciept here and the WoW box /w serial, so if Blizzard get back to me asking for photo reference then i assume it should be fine from there. If not my friends offerd me one of his serial keys as he bought 2 copies for some odd reason.

@ Slane - Cheers for the link, i'll have a read through soon.

I know its a very addictive game, and im usualy one of them people who tells people to stay away from WoW and such, but bordem took over and i needed something new to me.

Yeah it is very addictive i used to play about 5 years ago and there's nothing quite like hooking up with some mates to tramp around some forest haha. I avoid it now though as i never got anything done back then :p

I've never even seen the game before.

Games don't intrigue me and I'm amazed at how many grown ups can get into this so much!!

We're all kids at heart though, huh?

Yet you still reply

And yeah, WoW is very addictive - I tend to have a few weeks where Ill go back to playing it hardcore, then never touching it for months. Definately my favourite mmuperger tho, and Ive played pretty much all of them.

My thinking is the game was sold cheap because it's been tampered with allready. if that is the case its a shame, but with photo proof of the serial and receipt, you should not have any problems.

arent you just able to upgrade your trial account to a real one online and not have to physically buy the game. i know you cant download the whole game from the account management page.

One word of advice. Stay away. Stay very very far away from WoW...

I was going to say the same exact thing. Easily the best MMO that ever existed, but honestly you're better off not playing at all. This game is never-ending and you'll always find a reason to play even though you have work to do or family to spend time with. After all is said and done and you have every piece of gear that you could possibly want what do you really have? Do yourself a favor and use that time for homework or spending face to face time with friends.

I normally don't chime in when someone says "stay away from so-and-so" but this is ridiculous. Not everyone gets "addicted to playing." I have been playing WoW for almost 4 years now, and I still make time to go outside, spend time with the wife, have a social life, and various other things. Just because one person gets addicted to a certain thing doesn't mean everyone will. WoW has been geared towards the casual crowd now, and I see it remaining as such for a period of time.

I say, if you want to play, go right ahead. If you find you don't like it, then you can choose not to play anymore. If you find that WoW is for you, good. Enjoy the game, but don't overindulge. As with everything, take it in moderation.

That doesn't mean I was raiding or doing content for those 50 hours. I could've been standing around in Dalaran or Orgrimmar for most of that time just chatting with the guild or talking to friends. There is a difference between time logged and time played.

lmfao!

Up to 55 now! That's almost 8 hours each day of the week...

Obviously, you need my eye prescription more than I do because I don't see 55 hours.

Sometimes there is a character misprinted. A friend of mine had the same issue when installing Wrath of the Litch King, there was an R which looked like an A or something.

If it becomes a pain in the neck, you could upgrade your account online via your account management page on the wow website and sent back the retail version.

Obviously, considering Sethos saw 51 and I saw 55, chances are that it's changed since then. Must update every few hours or something perhaps.

I play alot, but I work alot too. I also spend quite alot of time with my family, and still manage a fair amount.

*Cough*

Good to see you didn't let that warning get you down after all.

Yes but sitting around a major city chatting still demands you to sit in front of the PC. I mean, even the time you may just let the character

stand idle, 55 hours as dead.cell saw is a hell of a long time, with my job, social life and family matters I struggle to get 3 hours a day to play games. So honestly, your above post talking about non-addictive and moderation seems hallow at best.

And it's kind of funny, there's so many people preaching on about how WoW is "so not addictive" and they manage to balance

it with their personal life just fine, they sure spend a lot of time with the game for any of their preaching to sound valid.

It is a time demanding game and it is a game that speaks to the addictive nature of people and that's just a fact.

Why people need to constantly defend against that fact and constantly sound like they are on the moral high horse just gets to me.

And yes, as dead.cell mentioned, the Xfire stats update with frequent intervals as the week progresses.

Actually, my personal life is just fine. I play when the wife is at work, and when she gets home I spend time with her. Granted, when I first started playing, I would spend hours on the game to get in raids, run dungeons, and proceed to try and get the best gear I possibly could, but now I don't do that as much. Whether or not I sit in front of the PC the whole time is kind of an irrelevant point. If you watch Hulu or send email, you are in front of the PC. Does that mean you are addicted to them? I think not. A lot of work nowadays is done in front of a PC, so that point is invalid.

I never claimed to be on a "morale high horse." I gave him the same advice that I now try to follow.

Funny, it still shows just 50 on xfire's website. What XFire doesn't show is the 45 minutes I'm AFK to do the dishes, coming back briefly to hit the space bar so I don't time out. Nor does it show the time I simply have the login screen up while browsing the internet, or going into the livingroom to watch an hour show. I've actually let the game log me out due to inactivity because I went outside to smoke and talked to my neighbors for 2 hours before coming back inside. XFire starts logging once wow.exe is active, not after you log in to the game itself. As I stated, time logged is different from time played.
