According to the latest issue of OPM, a new SSX is in the making.

The mag reports Criterion are making the title alongside the Need for Speed title that was confirmed for a Q3 FY2011 release on Monday.

No more details were given other then that.

Only one SSX title has come out this generation, which was SSX Blur for Wii. No other titles in the series have come out for PS3 or 360, with On Tour being the last SSX game a PlayStation or Xbox console had seen in 2005.

Last September, though, Alain Tascan of EA Montreal said the franchise would be revived, but only ?if the market is there?.

Thanks, TSA.

I recently bought SSX 3 for my Wii from Amazon with a GameCube controller. Love that game so much. SSX On Tour was good as well. I was surprised they stopped making the series, honestly. Same with NBA Street. I would love SSX for 360 - Blur was not very good.

I'm glad to hear this, even if it's just a rumour, it shows people are still thinking about the SSX series.

I'm a bit wary though of Criterion doing it, as their repertoire is mostly racing games (the Burnout series, and now, the Need for Speed series as well); the closest thing they've done to SSX is Airblade, which was like Tony Hawk Pro Skater but on hoverboards.

Still, I'm glad it's not been given to EA Montreal, as they're the ones who tainted the SSX series with SSX Blur (they also did the PSP version of SSX on Tour). Every other console SSX game was done by EA Canada (no, they're not the same company), and they were alll brilliant. :)

I remember the fun i had with SSX3, loved the concept (3 peaks linked on one mountain, uber tricks). It would be great to have a new one with updated graphics. I'll be watching this.
