BTallack
Well, that's terribly sexist. I can't imagine they'd be able to get away with that in Canada.

+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted June 25, 2003 Subscriber² Share Posted June 25, 2003 The "Not for girls" thing is a gimmick. In the 80's, Yorkie was marketed as "for truckers". The individual pieces on the standard chocolate bar (the blocks if you will) are much larger and so it was marketed (in a tongue in cheek way) as hard-man's chocolate. No advertising for a few years... Now it is marketed as "Not for girls", with billboards showing it and a slogan "Ladies: Save your money for drivin lessons". Also a TV campaign of a girl going into a sweet shop dressed as a guy. The owner tries to scare her with spiders, ask her questions about cars etc. When he is satisfied she is a man, he sells her the chocolate. He then says it really matches her lovely eyes, she replies "Do you think so?" giving away her girl-ness<?> and he takes the Yorkie back. It's really just harmful fun, sending it's own image up more than being sexist. But Yorkie is pretty much the nicest chocolate in the world (with Galaxy). +Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted June 25, 2003 Subscriber² Share Posted June 25, 2003 @Sera Eve: Nope it cannot attract lawsuits as it is not actually precluding anyone. It is a slogan, a gimmick, not an enforced policy. Also anyone with any sense realises it's a joke and parodying itself. I HATE this society of "Lets go sue someone"
Wickedkitten Veteran Posted June 25, 2003 Veteran Share Posted June 25, 2003 If that's a real product that should attract a lot of law suits why would there be lawsuits? People in Britain don't sue over frivolous things like Americans tend to do
aleni
i saw yorkie ads board in football field. well when they're quoting its not for girls. they would reduce the market that buys that thing, why would they do that?
+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted June 25, 2003 Subscriber² Share Posted June 25, 2003 Sheesh, read the thread, because IT'S A JOKE. Everyone over here get's it, and if they don't they are reading too much into it. It is not poking fun at women. It is poking fun at the stereotype, one that they kind of used a few decades ago. And no they are not reducing the mareting, cos since when have women ever done as they are told ;)
