Alan Wake PC Canceled, Now Xbox 360 Exclusive

Recommended Posts

A Microsoft spokesperson broke the news to Strategy Informer, saying, "We ultimately realized that the most compelling way to experience Alan Wake was on the Xbox 360 platform, so we focused on making it an Xbox 360 exclusive…This decision was about matching this specific game to the right platform."

Remedy said back in July that while they were focusing their development efforts on the 360 version, they were still open to the idea of bringing it to the PC as well. However, the decision to pursue a PC version was ultimately up to Microsoft, and apparently, Microsoft won out. So come May 18, if you want to solve the dark and deadly mysteries of Alan Wake, it's Xbox 360 or nothing.

Thoughts, PC gamers?

No big deal IMO, probably would have been another crap console port anyway...

We need more games designed for pc, these console ports always look and play like crap anyway. PC needs more exclusives to take advantage of the platforms abilities, just trying to emulate consoles isn't working. A remake is almost never as good as the original, so pc developers should stop trying to make pc games like console games. If pc gamers want console games buy a console, I prefer my dedicated servers and mods and all the other awesome things about pc gaming!

The game started development on the PC first  That is what is ironic, it was suppose to be the first game to showcase dx10, quad core, etc etc.

Blame microsuck, even the article says the decision was ultimately up to them.

At first I was thinking why would they want to stop the pc copy, because it might even sell a few copies of windows 7, then it hit me... People will still buy windows 7 when they buy a new pc and on top of that they will buy a xbox for games! Now I understand why they want to kill pc gaming so bad...

It's just to try and help sell 360's, as I said it'll probably still hit the PC at a later date.

Oh jeezzz, I think we went over this, of course any MS published games will favor the 360 first, that's how it'll go, but MS won't drop PC versions, the game will probably show up on the PC next year and be moved up to DX11 which is for the best actually.

It looks like the are focusing on releasing it for the Xbox 360 first then the PC at a later date. Though, I agree it's quite ironic since Alan Wake helped demo the first Intel Quad Core CPU's, haha.

Seeing as how it is now a "a less ambitious, linear action-adventure game after Remedy signed on with Microsoft" crap, a single core CPU will probably run it no problems.

What the hell? Where do you come up with this stuff?

Microsoft and Remedy have backed away from the PC version of Alan Wake over the past year - once a flagship showcase for Quad Core CPUs and all that is good about the innovative PC industry, Alan Wake gradually became a less ambitious, linear action-adventure game after Remedy signed on with Microsoft. The PC version was put on the backburner, with all efforts going into the lead Xbox 360 release; the launch date was pushed to "TBA," and official representatives were coy or downright evasive about its future. Now, Microsoft reps have finally confirmed that Alan Wake will never be released on the PC, after dropping all mention of the home computer version from their latest marketing materials:
Some games are more suited for the intimacy of the PC, and others are best played from the couch in front of a larger TV screen. [read: "WE DUMBED THE GAME FOR CONSOLE RETARDS WITH ATTENTION SPAN OF 5 SECONDS"] We ultimately realised that the most compelling way to experience Alan Wake was on the Xbox 360, so we focused on making it an Xbox 360 exclusive. Both Microsoft and Remedy have long histories in PC game development. This decision was about matching this specific game to the right platform.

I don't think anyone outside of remedy can say what their original "ambitions" for the game were. Posting some websites view on the matter is laughable to me.

Wow, just wow.

I never saw this many people go for the hook, line and sinker. You do realize that the bolded statement in my post (OP) highlights a poorly veiled excuse for running out of money. They ran out of money and don't think the PC will sell well if they do a poor port version. They most probably will make a port if the game sells well on the 360.

By the way, has anyone checked out the awesome GameTrailer's review of Heavy Rain? It looks fantastic. I wish I had a PS3.

The 360 has a 3 Core PPC based processor.

That's why I still expect a PC version, but Remedy is playing it safe, nothing wrong with that. Some people get so mad though. :p
