George P Global Moderator Posted February 14, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted February 14, 2010 Ahaha, nice. Anyways, here's hoping that it reaches the PC eventually. It is kinda funny to see Microsoft saying one thing and Remedy saying another. Microsoft just loves to throw their weight around it seems. It kind of sounds like Remedy wants to release a PC version and Microsoft wants it to be a 360 exclusive. If nothing else, the situation is making Microsoft seem rather overbearing. As for myself, this was always a game that I planned on getting for the 360 anyways, so I won't be heartbroken if it never makes it to PC. I dunno, I think it'll come to PC in time, MS doesn't want to leave Windows, it's first baby, hungry. It's just older, so you have to take care of the younger kid (Xbox) first you know? If Remedy could've done this all on it's own it would of, but as others have pointed out, money seems to be the problem. And in order to get the project done they needed to get a deal with MS, they did, so now the 360 version is coming first. I still believe that MS will want to use this game to showcase DX11 now, as the original idea was to showcase DX10 but back then, vista negativity and weak sales meant the PC game wouldn't have sold much anyways. Now it has a chance to sell very good, gets MS marketing behind it through the 360 deal, and Remedy has the funds to finish their project. It's win/win for everyone even if the PC fans have to wait a bit longer still.

Everybody knows that if you get those McDonalds straws, and put them end to end, you can drink and drive. Have the can of whatever crappy beer you are drinking in between your legs, and the 2 or 3 straws linked up to your mouth. TA-DA. You have your local Darwin award winning idiot! Note to any do-gooders: I don't really drink and drive.
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted February 17, 2010 Veteran Share Posted February 17, 2010 Anyone remember that really cool PC tech demo for Alan Wake? It showcased Intel's Core2Quad processors back in 2006. In any case, check it out here. It's such a shame they cancelled the PC version.
Vice
I think what likely happened here is the game was in development for so long that they ran out of money and had to make a deal with Microsoft to make it a 360 exclusive (in exchange for money from Microsoft) to finish the game. It was either a 360 exclusive or no game at all. I was looking forward to the game about 2 years ago but now its been so long I couldn't care less. If the game is looking good, and I know the story will be good, then I can wait another year. When it does come out I'll get it, if it doesn't then oh well, move on to the next, but I never really lose interest in it if it still looks worth it. HawkMan
its not right imo, game started out as a pc tech demo and ends up on the xbox 360 ... how about the other game which ended up the xbox platform, Halo? originally an RTS developed on the Mac .... fixed it. it was meant to be an rts, but never intended to be mac exclusive. in any case, the graphics where to detailed for it to be a rts at the time anyway. there's very few rts games with properly animated humanoids, and not just robots and stuff. or simply badly people animated by parts. skinning requires to much resources to make an army of them. it possible today, but back then it was a pipe dream. Vice
Why does it matter how long it has been in development? If you wanted to enjoy it last year why wouldn't you want to enjoy it this year? Quite a few reasons. It was going to be the first game to take full advantage of my Quad Core CPU and latest generation graphics. This is no longer the case. I do not even own an XBOX360 so what am I supposed to play it on? And probably the fact that this game has just been delayed forever has made my patience wain. Just like Duke Nukem Fornever. Cheshire Cat
This won't bother me at all as I personally think Alan Wake looks crap  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Deus Ex 3 isn't too consolified when it comes out, like number 2 was. Hedon
I do not even own an XBOX360 so what am I supposed to play it on? Then I can understand it. My point is, if the game is good last year, it will be good this year, or next year. I didn't start watching the show "24" until 2 years ago. I went back and watched 3 out of the 5 seasons I missed (so far). I loved those seasons, even though I am watching them years later. I enjoy them now as much as I would have back then. Kinda like Gran Turismo 4. That title is as old as dirt now, but I never played it. I finally picked it up, and I love it. To each their own I guess. To each their own I guess. Back when they first announced it, it was a technological marvel. They even stood on Intels stage at IDF in 2007 and overclocked the latest quad core processor by Intel to 4.2GHz just to emphasize how next generation this game was gonna be. Well guess what its 2010 now, we got CPU's with 8 threads already at 3.33GHz (back then 2.4GHz was the norm for Quads) we got 12GB of Memory and DX11. Back then DX10 was still pretty new and interesting and there weren't many games using it. Basically this game was going to be like Crysis before there was Crysis. Graphically, technologically. Now that is simply not the case and the game was only interesting for the reasons above. Now its just another game among so many others and the fact that it won't even be released on anything but the 360 means it has lost its soul too. It was always meant to be a PC title and to utilize all the latest tech in the pc industry that is why they were on stage with Intel. Do you see any Intel chips in a 360? Anyway I think I've made my points :p
Motoko.
Makes me wonder if they're focusing on the 360 version then the PC version must be somewhat complete. Perhaps they want to fine tune it on PC.

Anyway I think I've made my points :p And yet none of the other big name PC devs haven't done anything in all those years aside from crytek who did crysis the way they did mostly to show off the power of their game engine and try to turn into the next EPIC or ID. Remedy is small, compared to the big names like Activision, or EA. Even someone like EPIC has to sign deals to get funding for projects (Gears of War?), so while the original idea was to push the PC back then, that could still be the case later, Remedy clearlly didn't have the ability to see it through on their own, a publisher doesn't just hand over x ammount of cash and say good luck, there are strings attached. It's very clear that MS will publisher you if your game is 360 and PC, that's the deal. And the number of PC only games is dropping, outside of MMOs that is.
