Matthew S.
So I've got a few questions as this has finally started to rear it's bloody head... Which version of Quicktime on Snow Leopard is a better day-to-day player?
REM2000
I tend to use quicktime x, as the UI is very minimal and does get in the way and the player seems to be very fast. I play HD, DIVX, mov etc through it without a problem. The only time i tend to start up quicktime 7 is when i want to use the pro side of quicktime (i.e. save the audio track of a video as an MP3). Matthew S.
Isn't one of the problems with QT X that theres very few codecs that support it still? I have some HD content that I can't play with QTX -.-
richardsim7
I use VLC, I find it to be a much better player than both :)

I have some HD content that I can't play with QTX -.- Don't you mean the other way around? You could try using Perian with QTX, that seems to work with a lot of formats. I use VLC, I find it to be a much better player than both :) I have to keep VLC on here for Handbrake, and I do like it, just a shame the UI's not that nice. what
I use Movist pretty much exclusively now. Supports a lot of formats and looks similar to QT7.
.Neo
QuickTime X plays pretty much everything I throw at it after installing the latest Perian plugin. A few months ago there were some issues with Perian and QuickTime X but most of them are gone now. I always have MPlayer laying around just in case. PyX
I stopped using VLC (but still have it just in case). As mentioned by .Neo, QuickTime X + Perian = the ultimate package. But if I were Apple, I'd throw back the features they removed from QuickTime 7 in QuickTime X. It reminds me of when they rolled out their iMovie 7, with almost everything gone but a totally new interface. It took them a year to sort that out. Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted February 14, 2010 Veteran Share Posted February 14, 2010 I use VLC for most video playback however, QuickTime X is rather nice
Qoogirl
I typically use VLC for mostly everything, though there are some audio codecs I can't get it to play lately.... I like to use Quicktime X sometimes, but there are a lot of divx files that it can't understand for some reason lately, gives me a weird green line. Anyway, have to check out this Perian of which everyone is speaking...!
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted February 15, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted February 15, 2010 I personally use Plex, but it's a media centre, So I guess it doesn't count.
