PC graphics cards will soon be able to run HD games

Recommended Posts

I was having a conversation with a guy at work who wasn't pro-console or pro-PC and he's a nice guy, but he came out with "they'll soon be coming out with PC graphics cards that run games in HD, as in, 1080p". Talk about mis-informed! I wish I could have said mate, I ran UT in 1200x1600 in 2000 and most Xbox 360/PS3 (especially Xbox 360) games run at well under 1080p and are simply upscaled. Oh well.

You cant say especially 360 games when PS3 games are almost ALL 720 with a hand few that are 1080. So its BOTH consoles.

And your buddy there is WELL misinformed. You should tell him the differences in PC gaming and console gaming.

Sikh said it twice, so I'll take the duplicate as what I would have said.

And then laugh at that guy. I honestly though that this thread must have been dug up from a few years back when I saw the title.

Not to mention the slew of games that aren't even HD, som are 6xxP and then upscaled, it's quite pathetic actually.

That kinda made me laugh. I guess the best thing to do is to correct him. If he doesn't listen, it's his loss.

More PS3 games are 720p or higher. Most Xbox 360 games are rendered <720p I believe.

Don't you work at a retailer too? If so, this is highly disturbing.

I work for a government department

I couldn't be bothered. Don't have patience with that kind of thing any more, it's a waste of time. I just nod, "agree" and continue with my day.

Nope. Most PS3 games and most Xbox 360 games are 720p and lower. Quite a few games on both consoles are actually lower than 720p, including Modern Warfare 2 and GTA IV.

in fact some multi platform games are 720p on the 360 and less than 720 on the PS3.

True dat. There is a misconception out there indeed. The cool thing is that the upcoming Game Room games that are out in March for the Xbox 360 are 1080p native games. Granted, they are just classics that don't have any eye popping graphics, but that is a good direction. That will be 300+ titles right there.

GTA IV is 720p on the 360 and 640p on the PS3

I always here people say that it's impossible to tell when a game's upscaled from under 720p, but for me it's a noticeable difference -- they're far more blurry. Am I the only one who really notices that?

^ I can tell. I can tell barely on m 32 but the 42" in the living room or the 60" at my bosses house or the projector in my friends basement shows what game is native 720/1080 and what are upscaled.

Thats why i said Both consoles. I wasnt favoring either because im a PC gamer at heart and in fact connecting my PC to my friends projector projecting at a wall at 1920*1080 playing BC2 was AMAZING.

So PC > Consoles in Resolutions and other things. But ill keep it to resolutions for this topic.

It's easy to spot, depending on the TV. Upscaled games can look a bit more blurry but for me, they tend to look a lot more 'washed' out, smoother due to filters and whatnot but

like someone ran over the screen with a smudge filter because the textures get the upscale treatment.

OP's friend is a tool. PC gamers laugh at your inferior 1080p. We have Super Ultra HD.

3200p anyone? :p

I couldn't play like that, having the monitor frames break up the image like that - Eugh!

Wouldn't mind one singular monitor at that resolution

First wasting all that power on a game like WoW, really come on korean/chinese/japenese dude.

Now to your comment, I dont know how people multi monitor game with the frames of the monitor breaking it up. To me it looks unpleasant. If I want to play in that resolution I can use a project to project the image to one big giant image at that resolution.

Multi monitor gaming will never be good with me.

I like it but like I said the borders would throw me off regardless of game.
