dL
I really want to post this, but I wuz too lazy. :p I've purchased a SMC 7004VWBR Wireless Router (802.11b) & a SMC 2662W v2.0 Wireless Adapter earlier, and of course, the cable is connected to the router, and the adapter is plugged onto my computer to get internet from the 7004vwbr router .. anyways the funny thing is, no matter where I put the adapter, I still get a constant lag every one minute or so for any game or constant flowing traffic (Audio Talking, WebCam, Counter-Strike, Starcraft, Diablo II etc.) ... so I thought it was the interference, well I've checked .. no 2.4GHz type of wireless around the house and the microwave is hell far away from the routers and adapters. So I decided to put the adapter right beside the router, it is only about a centimeter away and it still lags. How can you explain this? OK! I went to other ppl's house to try this adapter, and it still lags the same. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE PRODUCT? Do you think changing this product to a Linksys or other brand adapter would solve this? I've tried changing channels and everything in the configuration (updated to latest driver and firmware), still doesn't work~! Please help me! Thank you for your kind attention! Adster
I have a D-Link Air Plus Setup and I have no lagging issues whatsoever. I have their 614+ Router, the 650+ PC Card for my laptop and a 520+ PC Card for my desktop, all run great with no lag issues whatsoever. Try switching to channel 11 on the router...see if that does anything.

+BudMan MVC Posted June 23, 2003 MVC Share Posted June 23, 2003 What do you mean by LAG? Your ping times increase? LAG is not a network term.
cjbeckwith
I have to agree with budman, lag is a conceptual idea, where as if you are talking latency, that is another matter. Is there a large difference between ping times to your router vs. say an external web site? If so...how much? You could attribute it to the NAT device, but that would lead me to believe the logic in the unit is sub par. Run extended pings on your router and then an external source to see if the average return times are greatly different. From there you can tell if you are having a latency issue or not. zivan56
call tech support..... smc tech support is amazing, try it first. LOL, you can't be serious. I've bugged then with 20 e-mails over the last 4 years to fix a bug in my 7004ABR. They finally fixed 2 months ago. I've also had an SMC 2404WBR and it was slow to respond to website requests and stuff, this is completly normal for wireless and the latency is obviously high no matter what you do.
