Ironman273
Datel Space Dock Adds External Hard Drive to PS3 and Xbox 360 Adding a USB hard drive to your PS3 or Xbox 360 isn't as simple as plugging it in (and on the 360 especially, it's pretty much a hack). But Datel's new Space Docks make the process simple. Their Space Dock, available in PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, accepts 2.5" or 3.5" SATA HDDs (up to 1TB) just like cartridges before what we can only assume is an automatic formatting and file install process that allows stock drives to be instantly compatible. Once installed, the drive mounts in your system to load saved games, play movies, etc, plus you can always plug the drive back into your PC to transfer more files since the formatting structure is really just FAT32. $40, available soon and kind of neat. (Datel is free to use that catchy sales pitch, if they'd like.) Source: Gizmodo Edit: From the Datel site: Product Description2.5"/3.5" SATA HDD Docking Station High speed 480 Mbs Plugs directly into USB port on XBOX360 Accepts SATA HDDs upton 1TB! Your HDD will appear as a mass storage device - transfer movies, music data and more... Share files with other XBOX360 gamers via your PC with unique Memory Manager Software So it appears that you won't be able to use it like the internal drive on the Xbox, just a really big USB stick. philcruicks
If MS don't block it like they have with the un-official memory units then its fantastic!...tho i have an annoying feeling that they'll block it, epically since they just released the 250GB drive, they're not going to want to lose out on sales. Hedon
IMO, this is a waste, ESPECIALLY for 360 owners. You can't use it as an Xbox 360 HDD. You can't download DLC, such as maps, zune movies, etc to it. Does the PS3 allow you to download and run all DLC from the PS Store on an external HDD? I have never done such a thing. No only external media like photos and video files, nothing related to the actual OS/PSN/PS3 downloads themselves. It's just a simple expensive branded dock, all you need to do yourself is buy an external hard drive and stick it in a dock of your own purchase. The advert says otherwise: "Once installed, the drive mounts in your system to load saved games, play movies, etc" This means it can be assumed that all content on the system can be put on the drives. That makes it not like any other external. PS: Audio, you may have been stating an opinion, but that opinion was that it was useless for anyone and not just yourself. It being opinion or not has nothing to with it being a public or personal issue. With you it is always a personal reason to hate/disregard something. At least that has always been my observation. I do not need a disclamer for every post I make on this board, live with it. There is a difference between IMO and the phrase "for me". Why? because one implies that it is your opinion that said statement is true, and the other implies that in your situation it is so. You said that in your opinion it is useless. That does not suggest anything about who that opinion applies to in the slightest, just that it is YOUR OPINION. It could be my opinion that the the 360 controller is better than the PS3 one. But that opinion, for me, is not just in terms of my own experience. I think the controller is better in general but it is still my opinion. But, if I were to say that I don't like the controller cause it hurts my hands (which it does), I am now giving an opinion which is based on my personal preferences. You did the former, not the latter. You can try to throw up the opinion card all you want but what you said is not what you meant apparently. I also agree that you don't need a disclaimer, but watch how you phrase your posts or people will continue to yell at you for it. IMO =/= get out of jail free card for everything you say. I'm not trying to fight with you, but don't start complaining about grammar nazis when you can't phrase yourself properly. English is a complex language, especially in text. It can be easily interpreted differently unless you are careful about how you write things down. You need to look at what you write abstractly, and be sure what you want to get across is. If not, this kind of crap will happen constantly with people misreading and misquoting you. That is unless you like grammar arguments. Please don't take this as a hostile post, I'm just trying to tell you what you typed wasn't what you thought and SEVERAL people read it that way. George P Global Moderator Posted February 17, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted February 17, 2010 :( That seems to happen whenever AB posts. On topic, the part about it working with saves is interesting, is the dock sorta faking it being a formated memory card? If you can put saves on it why not dlc? I know people with the arcade version and the bigger memory cards can put xbla games on them, unless that's changed. More details are needed. Though if it can do the dlc bit it'll be banned for sure.

Though if it can do the dlc bit it'll be banned for sure. Not necessarily, considering that DLC is registered to an account and an xbox, so unless the drive is formatted as the home console drive you won't be able to use any of the content offline. At least that is how it would work for the 360. I doubt that Sony is too worried about this though. In general public speaking and message boards, IMO and "for me" interpret as the same thing for the majority of people. If your that strict about grammar perhaps you do not belong on a public board. We know what Audio is trying to say. But your post just left me  Absolutely pointless IMO, upgrade your PS3 hard drive yourself, or buy a separate external. It really did read as "I think it sucks, this stuff is better". I understand that the first half is an opinion, but it sucking isn't a personal issue unless stated as such. The fact he said other things were better, and not that he would do them over it also shows he doesn't think of it as an opinion, but genuine advice. It being an opinion didn't become apparent till Audio later explained it in another post (proof shown that two people posted in response to him with a fairly confused "wtf" mentality). I wasn't policing either, I was merely trying to explain to Audio why everyone read him wrong. Most of the time I avoid Audio because his posts are bias towards his own limited veiw of what HE needs and what HE likes, not what the general gaming community needs and what it likes. I already went through many threads trying to enlighten him on subjects similar to the wireless debate we had about what others have (a majority of people don't have wireless, let alone broadband) yet he continually disregarded that and continued arguing based on the fact a wire was inconvenient for his home and that is why the PS3 is better than the 360. If you can understand why I jumped on him a little bit after reading this then all's well. If you can't, then at least I tried to explain myself and why I get irritated with the way Audio puts forth his opinion. It is just never based on anything but personal standards. The_Observer
Check the Datel link ( [www.datel.co.uk] ). It is pretty clear this is just like any other external USB hard drive except it is marketed specifically for the Xbox 360. It is recognized as a Mass Storage Device on the 360, and can only be used to play music, videos, etc ... it cannot store save games, or Live Arcade games, or games copied to the hard drive. The fact that its formatted FAT32 is also a dead give away that this isn't used as the 360's main hard drive. Might be different for the PS3

I'm especially curious as to what data means as well, considering both of those are things you currently cannot use on a 360. The first few in the list already give examples of the extent of the 360's abilities with a standard drive (music, movies, pictures) so unless they are just lumping all the attributes that are dependent on console together there must be some additional functionality it.
