Recommended Posts

THE BATTLE FOR THE FUTURE HAS BEGUN!

Set in the early 21st century, Tiberian Sun once again pits the Global Defense Initiative against the Brotherhood of Nod in a struggle for control of the planet. With an epic storyline that unfolds as play progresses, players learn the reasons behind the worldwide outbreak of Tiberium and what happened to the notorious Nod leader Kane, who was presumed dead at the end of the first Command & Conquer.

KANE IS DEAD. A NEW ENEMY HAS EMERGED.

It's time to head up the Firestorm task force. Nod's experiments have unknowingly released a horde of cybernetic nightmares upon the world. As GDI and Nod scramble to save themselves, they realize their only salvation lies in the unthinkable.

I love C&C and Tiberian Sun was one of my favorites. It has a bunch of drawbacks and can be a pain to get running on a modern system, but for free, its a great game.

I got it in both its original form and TFD, made life so much easier having one disc for them all. I always used to turn off superweapons for skirmishes though, as the AI would spam them.

I just can't get into these types of games but great that they are allowing the download. I know these things were a huge hit back in the day

Did anyone try the Command & Conquer 4 beta? I did and I really didn't like it. It is nothing like the previous games. I also didn't like Red Alert 3 very much, but really liked C&C3. C&C4 is only related to Command & Conquer in story and the names of the factions, gameplay is nothing alike. I would relate it more to Halo Wars. I will not be buying it.

I'm in it (in fact, I've been trying to play it in skirmish mode due to connectivity stability issues), and you're right; it's NOT like the older C&C titles.

Still, what's wrong with that?

In terms of storylines, the Tiberium Control Network pretty much eliminated the need for harvesting in the traditional sense; so if you want to blame anyone, blame Kane.

Truth be told, the forced move to an expeditionary-force (EF) model that the TCN brings in plays more into the hands of NOD than it does GDI (at least if you look at the C&C 3 force/base structure). So I can understand from a tactical sense why Kane would actually go to GDI with the idea; he was thinking that GDI would basically walk into a trap that would allow NOD to chop up the resultant smaller force structure piecemeal.

What Kane forgot is that GDI has a history of expeditionary forces (mostly special operations forces) of its own; in other words, GDI went back to its roots. (Hence the crawler; there was a similar unit in C&C 3 called the BattleBase.)

The combination of the TCN and smaller force model (for both sides) also took a major NOD propoganda tool out of play (GDI as a "force of occupation"). (Oooops.) There's a historical precedent for this (real world, not C&C timeline), and it's still going on - Afghanistan. The NATO forces' move to that selfsame EF model (as opposed to large fixed bases) took attempts by the Taliban to paint NATO (let alone the US) as "occupiers" and forced them to fall rather flat.

C&C 3 iisn't going anywhere, any more than Generals/Zero Hour went away when C&C 3 was released. Original Starcraft (now called Starcraft Anthology, it also includes the BroodWar expansion) hasn't gone anywhere, either.

I still would like a new C&C that is like C&C. C&C is popular for what it is, not whatever C&C 4 is. There are other games to get if you want that.

Any DRM in this?

Why would there be DRM in a free product? Why would EA possibly waste the time coding in DRM into something they are giving away?

Good of them to do so anyway, I loved these games back in the day but yeah cant get back into them now, just too old and I dunno each to their own.

One or more dll files are either missing or damaged. Please reinstall.

(N)

I did follow the instructions but the batch file doesn't even work, I get an error complaining about some dll file.
