Single-Piece Flight Stick Recommendations

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I'm looking for an upgrade to my Logitech Extreme 3D, a cheap flight stick that has served me well for the past few years now.

However, it's starting to show its weaknesses in hectic situations. The throttle control is a bit too flimsy and a tad inaccurate at times.

Also, the rudder function ( Twist handle ) is also a bit flimsy and over-zealous, as the tiniest movement will start throwing

the plane around despite calibration - I'd love some gradual movement.

As I stated in the title, I'd like it to be single-piece and by that I mean no massive throttle-control unit on the side, I just don't

have room for that. So a stick with all the required buttons, throttle control and preferably some gradual rudder control.

And above all; quality!

Any suggestions?

Thanks :)

Thank you for the suggestion!

I'm not too sure about detachable thrust control, as I wanted to avoid too big of a set up and if we're already

in that size range, I might as well order the X52 Pro and get it over with - I was just hoping for a unit with the same size

as the 3D Pro, so much easier to whip out and play with :shiftyninja:

So I'm currently looking at the X52 Pro, so I'm looking for suggestions in the same 'quality' range, just smaller.

And to be honest, the Thrustmaster Hotas looks a bit 1998 to be honest, just flimsy ugly plastic

Check out the Saitek Cyborg X. It's like a kick-ass nanite-infected version of the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.

That certainly looks badass - Although, I can't find anything regarding twist handle control for the rudder,

which is a requirement for me, perhaps I'm just blind?

I don't think it does, which kinda sucks. :/ It looks like a really good joystick.

Aye, it really does - Especially with all the adjustments and double-throttle control.

Really is a shame, because it would have gone to the top of my list otherwise.

Looks like the X52 Pro is still up there :p

EDIT:

"Rudder with twist axis

For easy maneuverability."

So it HAS rudder control? Now I'm not sure

Actually, I think it does twist for rudder control.

http://www.amazon.com/Saitek-PS38-Cyborg-X-Stick/dp/B001EYU1VO (search "rudder" on the page)

http://www.techbuy.com.au/products/99830/JOYSTICKS_JOYSTICK/Saitek/131-01-08295.asp (lists "twist axis for rudder")

http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=269001 (see 3rd last sentence in main paragraph)

EDIT: It seems so. And from the reviews I've seen, the joystick is pretty decent. (Y)

I'll see what the bank account says, I stumbled on the X52 Pro today while I was searching and that certainly

caught my eye with brilliant quality and features but it also costs a pretty penny. So if that isn't within budget,

I will go for the Cyborg X - I do hope it feels like a quality stick, because the price doesn't really shout quality to me.

Thanks An (Y)

That's gonna be a big no, thanks though :p

You'll be sorry :p

Seriously though I can't believe I'm still using a 10 year old peripheral - best £80 I ever spent!

I hope Microsoft delve back into their range of sidewinder products as they were truly awesome :(

Actually yeah, the old MS sidewinder sticks where pretty much THE best single unit sticks you could get. no modern stick comes close, with flimsy flacid force feedback and poor centering and even when they do center their zero position is usually horribly off so you need to have a huge center dead zone anyway.

except for those the only sticks I'd recommend is Thrustmaster, even after the buyout. Saitek's look cool, but build quality isn't up there. even if I do want a X52, it's just not even close to the thrustmaster in quality. and they do make some fairly decent single unit stuff too. Logitech though... yeah they need to stick to mice and pads.

My Logitech stick had tons of centering issues and leaving it centered, planes would

fly all over the place but I learned how to adapt and I'm fairly sure the problem is less noticeable

with this stick, so it's not a big deal for me.

Plus, with that design I can forgive anything
