Infinity Ward can't compete with DICE online - EA

Recommended Posts

Electronic Arts has laid down the gauntlet to Infinity Ward and Treyarch - claiming that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 developer DICE is in a league of its own when it comes to online multiplayer.

The comments come after CVG sister mag PSM3 claimed that Battlefield 2 was a 'better online game' than the almighty Modern Warfare 2.

"DICE is at the forefront of defining the multiplayer and online vehicle warfare space and has substantial pedigree in this area following many years of success. We genuinely believe there isn't a developer out there that competes with DICE in this space, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is going cement that," EA product manager Will Graham told industry mag MCV.

"The use of vehicles in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 sets it apart from the competition and no one else in the industry does this better.

"This is also something the core are very excited about: DICE's history of delivering a multiplayer experience utilising vehicles is something that sets it apart from anything else in the market. It's also an element that fits with the increasing emphasis on multiplayer for gamers in general."

DICE has put particular emphasis on polishing the multiplayer game in BC2 - and it looks like EA ain't gonna let us forget it.

I am the best at correct grammar on the Internet. There's no one in my league. GTFO. Regardless of IW's downfalls and how good Bad Company just may be, you can't deny what COD multiplayer has done over the last few years.

A little bit of healthy competition never hurt anybody. Hell, considering how much of a train-wreck MW2 is, I'd say that some heated competition can't come soon enough.

As much as I would say yes rub it in their face too DICE need to realise too that frostbite/bad company 2 is still a step back from the quantity and scale of bf2 which the vastness + modding proved to be great if only they'd had a bit more customizations in it. Until they can get back to that level the things that have drawn so many people to bf2 they've still got a way to go themselves.

i've played both and i think COD is better then BC2, but to each thier own. two completely different games, COD is run and gun, BC2 you need a lot more strategy and team work.

Yeah...you can't loan wolf the game and win. What a shame. This will be even more true when they make it so a single person can't c4 objectives to death. I just wish they would implement that fix in the beta.

The same thing since CoD4? :D
Well look how far COD4 has brought the experience. I think this genre has exploded once again due to that game. Not entirely does it deserve the credit but it had a very large hand at helping. What they've done since, well take it for what it's worth. I have a love/hate relationship with MW2. I still play it all the time because I want to get my money's worth. Even if there are things I dislike about it. I hated WAW but I still always played it and eventually it grew on me.

I say good for them. Let them rub it in Activision and Infinity Ward's face.

+1

Ballcocks, i keep getting "lost connection to game server" in BC2 every 15 mins and i can play all day if i wanted to in MW2.

Are you SERIOUSLY saying this? I really hope you overlook it because MW2 is a final product and BC2 is a BETA. You do realize the minute this game hits final 31265165165 servers will pop up everywhere, something MW2 DOESNT HAVE.

I dont like the fact that DICE is getting full of themselves but they have a right to make IW/Activision Realize that they failed at the PC Platform. The fact that they went barebones direct port with the game means they didnt give a **** about the PC Userbase. DICE however did there best to make Frostbite PC available and I am VERY HAPPY for that. Now I wish mod support would come back, but this is the first "year" frostbite will be PC. So itll take time to have them adopt mods into the frostbite engine. I was thinking this engine wouldnt make it too PC but Im glad it did.

I for one will play BC2 a lot this year. My logged hours will be that much of my COD4 MW hours(about 500 since the day the game came out). MY MW2 hours are 3 weeks on 360 thats it.

I have and will spend a lot of time in BF2. I didnt have xfire back then but Im close to logging possibly 800 hours with that game or more. I really do believe DICE has it right. Lets hope BF3 keeps with BF2 but adds PR traits in there by default.

Was wondering how long it would take someone to say "OMG BETA!!!!!!!!11111111onetwobucklemyshoe"

Even the devs said themselves they dont know why its happening and thats why there is still no fix 2 weeks before it hits the shops.

You really are oblivious arent you? I dont know what it will take you to use common sense and realize when it RETAILS then you can complain. Just because the dev says "we dont know yet" doesnt mean they wont find out the day before the game retails. DICE is working REALLY hard on this game for retail. Some of the things that people have been waiting an update for are all fixed in Retail and I believe it.

I didnt expect the beta to get updates because every change they make and release an update, thats another 546416 reasons of risking an unstable build.

Open your damn eyes or just admit your riding IW/Activison and you dont want to admit it cant compare to BC2.

Some people......

@Sethos: yes thank you, i knew you would comment clearly.

Ill moan all i want, just because its beta doesnt exempt it from criticism.

Its had one update that i know of and the servers have been updated at least once and when the devs say themselves they dont know why its happening 2 weeks before retail doesnt fill me full of confidence.

Just shows how immature you are accusing me of riding IW/Activision, i havent played MW2 in months as i think its a pile of sh**e.

The client has had 3 patches and servers 7. :)

I use to have that bug my self, but it's apparently to do with the timeout settings on your router. Valve has the same issues with their server browser causing floods on certain routers and timing them out.

So in short it's not their fault. They can't account for every ****ty router given away by ISPs. :(

You think its **** yet your backing it up OVER BC2? You sir can b**ch all you want but your confusing as hell.

You know that is true. I have pfsense running but I just put back my regular router to see what he/you are talking about and yeah I see what you mean. I use to have the issue with steam till i DMZ'ed myself, but I unDMZed myself and got the issue.

Regardless, he's gonna whine and blah blah blah. Come retail when its fix / when its down to being user problems he'll probably come up with something else.

Look at the thread title, DICE are saying they are so great and better than Infinity Ward, thats the only reason i mentioned MW2, at least i can play that without losing my connection every 15 mins.....

What are you babbling on about, you seem to know a lot about me despite my very few posts in here, who said im going to come up with new things to moan about, you seem to be the person who is riding DICE/BC2 here.

Fair enough, its a shame cause i had it pre-ordered ive just cancelled it now, its a poor do when they are blaming crappy routers given away by ISP when i have no issues with any other game whatsoever.

Just a suggestion, try this; http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/09/09/disable-and-turn-off-ipv6-support-in-vista/

IPv6 gave me tons of lag issues, disconnects etc. also because of my crappy ISP appointed Router. Disabling fixed every single issue I had.

( Works for Windows 7 as well, the above guide )
