Borderlands...worst game ever

Recommended Posts

So the guys at work got hooked on Borderlands so I decided to pick it up to play with them.... I can't understand what is appealing at ALL in this game. It's boring, nothing revolutionary is gameplay or story. It's just....dull. Can someone enlighten me to how its supposed to be so good?

Were your friends saying it was revolutionary gameplay/story? If so, they were outright lying. While the story was clearly absent, the style of RPG Shooter (while not revolutionary) was still quite fun for me at least. I played with a friend for the entire game and we had a blast.

You clearly have your opinion made up, so why do you want to be convinced otherwise?

If you don't like it you don't like it, dunno why you need someone to try and convince you otherwise, all that matters is how you feel.

But calling it the worst game ever is going to get you some grief in here, it's far far from that, no matter how much you dislike it.

I doubt it. It's obviously not a game for you and why would you want your mind changed? You tried it, didn't like it, so move on. I actually think it's a lot of fun. I have no idea what the draw is in WOW but 10 million people disagree with me. It's cool.

Edit: LOL Massive multi-post.

No one called it "revolutionary" perhaps I should have used the word Evolutionary.

I played the game for about 45min the night I got it and got VERY annoyed with it. I only died once so it wasn't that. I then tried again later and found myself getting physically angry with the game, and I have never done that before, frustrated yes but never angry.

Did you play with people or play it solo? I hear a lot of people who dislike the game only played it solo. I personally didn't have any problems with it while playing solo but to each their own.

Its a console game shouldn't the solo part of it be considered enjoyable? If a lot are saying the solo is bad then as far as I'm concerned they failed 100%.

Definitely not the worst game ever, but I found it extremely repetitive. Running around killing the same monsters or people over and over again, who essentially obstructed your run to the other side of the map, or collection of random items, became very tedious. I will eventually finish it off, but there are other games I'm playing right now that deserve more attention.

Oh, and although I've primarily played solo, I've tried online play with a friend, and that didn't make things much better. A bit, but not enough to redeem itself in my eyes.

Whatever you do, don't pick up Left 4 Dead or Left 4 Dead 2 because you're going to absolutely hate it because Valve has failed 100%

Although L4D is even more multi-player focused than Borderlands, somehow it's just more fun to play. Maybe it's just the sheer adrenaline rush from that survival feel, because although it is repetitive as well, it doesn't feel like a grind the way Borderlands is.

I personally loved the game for what it was worth, and I commend Gearbox for trying something like that. I knew the game didn't have any story going into it, but being that it's a 4-player coop game, it's very hard to have a story without taking away from the coop-ness of it.

I will say this, if you don't enjoy playing with other people and don't enjoy grinding and looting, then this game really isn't for you. And I'm really looking forward to the next DLC and raising the level cap.

Yikes, worst game ever? I wasn't the biggest fan of the game (I stopped playing once my character hit level 16 or so), but that's a pretty extreme statement. I'd rather play this than E.T. for the Atari 2600, that's for sure :).

I didn't like borderlands either and I'm a big MMO fan. It's dull as dish water- it's like chasing an unobtainable carrot. I'd rather do a thousand WoW dungeon dailys than play it again.

I have a friend who keeps going on and on about it, but I played it for about a week and just got so utterly, stupedously bored with it and annoyed as hell that the same mobs would spawn over and over again and impede you every step of the way. If I've killed a mob, I want it DEAD. I don't want to have to kill it again and again as I go through trying to complete these retarded quests. Not only that but I loathed the graphics. They actually made me angry. Why? Because it's using the same graphic style as XIII, but it didn't pull it off. It had too many colors, it was too pixely, and the style of the whole game didn't suit the graphics at all. XIII pulled it off because the game was designed around the graphic style. Borderlands bastardized the style and just fit it over a game not in any way designed for it.

There were some elements to the game I did like, like the unique weapons, and some of the characters, but it was such an appalling game in most respects in my opinion that I simply could not stand to pick it up again.

I played this for about an hour or two without liking it AT ALL.

But when I actually understood everything, holy crap!

I'm pretty much addicted to this game now, it's even messing with my dreams, I keep seeing red weapon chests!

Have to say the story sucks, and the missions are pretty basic/all the same, but the whole weapon thing and free-roam is SO, so good.

I'd say it's like a mixture of Fallout 3, Diablo and Guild Wars.

"why would you want your mind changed?"

Because this is another person who probably posts stuff on here like this regularily. Been influenced by other people choosing his stuff for him for so long, he can't make up his own mind.

Kind oif like how so many people got influenced towards saying Google and Firefox are the greatest things since bread!!

Very few people can make up their own minds anymore, it seems.

played single player and multiplaer completed it, played it again

play the first dlc waiting for the third

loved the game

can say it is my second favourite game on the 360 -fun wise- after shadowrun

the missions and story are better on single player when you can take the time to read wat the mission is about while on multiplayer you dont have the time to do that and only rely on what the NPCs tell you

Definitely not the worst game ever.

I was totally hooked on it. Even got up to playthrough 2.5. Crimson Lance were the best enemies. Not to mention my Combustion Hellfire being the best gun ever. Online sucked, no doubt about it. But the first DLC was awesome. Zombie killing FTW!

I got Borderlands in the bundle with my 360. I've played it very briefly and it confirmed my suspicions that I hate playing FPSs on consoles. The game looked like it might be fun, but until I can play it with keyboard and mouse I'll never find out. :)

This game is definitely odd in a sense. The game is boring played SOLO. So definitely dont play it solo. I cant play this game solo. But once you have 4 player co-op going, its a ton of fun playing with your buddies online, looting for better weapons. Its a lot of fun working with 4 real human players killing different types of enemies, looking at new weapons, seeing what their special abilities are etc.

Multiplayer is pretty fun.. solo, eh, not so much.

I love Borderlands. It's not a brilliant game, but it's a lot of fun.

To be honest I think the second playthrough is where the game shines. The game should've been like that from the get-go. The 1st playthrough is very timid and boring in comparison to play 2.

Basically you are bombarded with tough enemies over and over. It's great having epic battles everywhere you go.
