One of biggest differences between the Xbox 360 and PS3 is the Blu-ray player. The Xbox 360 uses the DVD format and the PS3 uses the larger capacity Blu-ray format.

With next gen games increasing in size and scope the 15-year old DVD format is starting to show its age. SankakuComplex, the anime crazed site translated an interview with Lost Planet 2 developer in the latest Famitsu magazine. Lost Planet 2 is the sequel to the popular Xbox 360 title that sold well.

According to the developer, the studio had to cut chunks of content from the game due to the limitations of the DVD disc for the Xbox 360. The developer expressed remorse at having to find content to cut out of the game. He stated, ?Truly, we were weeping as we were forced to cut stuff.?

Did the development go well?

There weren?t any big problems. More troubling than any development problems was having to keep cutting out content.

We included a lot in this release, and by the end it became a battle with the disc capacity.

The famed producer, Jun Takeuchi has complained in the past about disc space for Resident Evil 5, indicating that he would like to see a ?complete? version for the PS3. I think he will be happy when the Xbox 720 comes out with Blu-ray and cloud support.

Takeuchi did comment that the content that had to be cut out of Lost Planet 2 could end up as DLCs-hopefully.

That is BS.

So they are going to charge you for content that was going to be in the game.

DLC's are starting to become a bit obnoxious.

this is why , when we have a format war, everyone loses...

I wish MS would just man up and add a bluray drive to a new SKU and launch a usb2 bluray reader drive for it too. Bluray readers can be had for ?45 so i'm sure MS could have a usb2 bluray drive for ?40.

Yeah, like Microsoft are going to cut off a massive segment of their consumers, force an expensive addon down people's throats and make themselves look like complete pillocks.

It isn't even feasible from a business perspective - It'll happen the next generation at the earliest.

You know i often think why didn't they keep HD-DVD alive as a game disc format?

Because the 360 didn't ship with the HD-DVD drives built into the console, therefore not everyone would have had one...thus making it pointless for developers to support.

It's not going to happen this generation, it would essentially become required to continue playing the latest games, which would alienate a vast amount of customers and split the potential playerbase.

That said, Nintendo did something like this with the N64 expansion pack.

Well it was about a year too late for it to make its way into the 360. Had the 360 used it as a gaming media then it may have very well become a defacto for movies too since it would have been a bit of a hit to the PS3 trump card that Blu Ray had going for it.

Square Enix decided to compress video / graphic texture for Final Fantasy XIII 360 version because they did not want go beyond 3 dvd's as well.

EA/Bioware mentioned how the graphics for DragonAge on the PS3 are closest to the PC version due to blu-ray space / larger textures.

I really think Microsoft should of waited until HD-DVD was finialized and then make it part of the drive.

This remark could really be to put social pressure on MS to have Blu-ray in there next version of there console (not current one), which I can see MS not doing due to being stubborn.

I think they should have cut a few things from the 360 version, and released the complete version on the PS3 as a director's cut or something. Conversely, they could have had an install and play disc for the 360, but I guess you run into the problem of those without HDDs or those with next to nothing left on their 20GB HDDs.

They could always add an install requirement on the xbox. Or they just wanted an excuse for a DLC shiftyninja.gif.

Which rules out non-HDD-equipped 360's from having the game in the first place.

One way may be to make the install disk optional by putting compressed copies of certain assets on one disk along with all the other bells and whistles and then on another disk offering some of that content uncompressed that can be installed for improved quality. I think it'd work to a degree but unless you save a good deal of space with the more heavily compressed copies then the payoff would be slim.

Certainly they should avoid mandatory installs but.

HD-DVD lost the war due to Blu-ray buying out Walmart. If Walmart had never supported just a single format this war would be still going on or possible could have gone the other way.

No, totally not true. Wal Mart actually had $99 HD-DVD players for the holidays in 2007 and they sold like crazy, sadly at CES in 2008 Warner Bros went Blu leaving basically Universal as the last hold out. Walmart didn't go all Blu until that summer.

They already made themselves look like complete pillocks by not going full with HD-DVD or BluRay.

So Capcom is complaining about the console that made it possible for them to even create a Lost Planet 2? If Lost Planet "sold well" on the 360 I'd have to believe it was a decent game (I never did get to play it) so are they adding that much "bloat" to the game that they have to cut stuff out?

I couldnt find sale figures between PS3, Xbox, and PC so who knows.

I personally didn't like the first game because I thought the controls were horrible, and they're keeping the controls with the second game. But that's just me, I know DL really enjoyed it.

As far as cutting things out of the game, it's not necessarily a bad thing. I consider it the difference between a theatrical release and the director's cut. For example, if you see the DLC for Gears of War 2, it really wasn't necessary for a game. I guess the same could be said for the AC2 DLC.

I know a lot of people whine about gameplay length, but honestly making a campaign longer for the sake of it being longer really puts me off for most long games. If the length is necessary to portray the true experience and story, then I'm all for it.

And as far as the whole "weeping" quote, that's just whiny BS
