greythorne
I have an old HP PSC 1350 printer which is connected to my mac mini through USB2.0. OK the printing is fine but i am unable to use the scanner functionality of the printer, this printer is an all-in-one. Tried installing the drivers from HP and also from the Mac OS X install DVD as suggested by apple tech support but still can't use the scanner. Now i use third party scanner software like vuescan which leaves dollar sign all over the image that i scan as it is a trial version. I went to system preference and then to print & fax that's where upon clicking the scan tab that i saw no scanner selected which means that HP did not support scanning in SL with this old PSC 1350. Any idea how i could get the functionality back? Thank you.
giga Veteran Posted February 20, 2010 Veteran Share Posted February 20, 2010 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#HP Shows that the HP PSC 1300 Series supports print and scan. Try installing the latest HP drivers: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907 Image Capture or Preview in /Applications can scan, so try that as well. Anyway tried what you stated here but still can't get scanner to work. Here is the screenshot. Also i called Apple tech support all i was told to do was to install printer drivers from the installation DVD. I am not sure why scanner isn't working as it should. Do you think resetting PRAM would help? Thanks.
giga Veteran Posted February 21, 2010 Veteran Share Posted February 21, 2010 Sure, resetting the PRAM wouldn't hurt. Try this. 1. Delete the printer in System Preferences. Disconnect USB. 2. Remove any plists relating to HP or printing in /username/library/preferences/ and /username/library/application support 3. Go to software update and see if there are any updates and install them if there are. Restart. 4. Power cycle your printer and reconnect it. Add printer in System Preferences. Otherwise, go with this: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Mac-printing-and-scanning/Snow-Leopard-os-10-6/m-p/114532/highlight/true#M2026
dreamsINdigital
I have this printer, and scanning does work in Snow Leopard with the drivers from Software Update. While the printer is connected and on, run Software Update and it should install HP drivers. That's all I did, and have full functionality. All I did to get the printer running was connect it, turn it on, and run Software Update after I installed Snow Leopard. This was the only thing I did; I didn't use the HP CD or download anything from their website. The initial driver from Software Update when Snow Leopard launched did not include scanning support for this printer, but in an update it was added. I did a clean install for Snow Leopard. If you did an upgrade, maybe it's conflicting.
Southern Patriot
I used to have the same printer and on Tiger and Leopard (never used it with Snow Leopard) I always used VueScan for scanning.
