+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted February 21, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted February 21, 2010 Yoshinori Kitase has said that Final Fantasy VII could be remade if it were feasible to do so within a year?s time. Speaking to TechDigest, Kitase said that with today?s technology it is possible to remake the game, but being able to do it within a year would not be possible. ?If it were possible that we had all the right facilities and the right environment to be able to make and prepare a Final Fantasy VII remake within a year, we?d very much like a go at it,? he told the site (via Kotaku). ?But even Final Fantasy XIII has taken over three and a half years to create. If we were to recreate Final Fantasy VII with the same level of graphical detail as you see in Final Fantasy XIII, we?d imagine that that would take as much as three or four times longer than the three and a half years it has taken to put this Final Fantasy together. So it?s looking pretty unrealistic. ?But if any such situation came about, by any remote chance, then yes, we?d do it?. Looks like it?s just the PSN version for the time being then, kiddos, despite Kitase being really interested in seeing how it would turn out. Even if he does think it would be hard to do in this day and age of HD. Don?t worry though. FFXIII is out in a few scant weeks, and there?s always the chance that our hero, Cloud, could turn up in other games. Never :p Maybe they'll need to rely on it if FF13 sales don't boom....
Xilo
They wouldn't need near as much time as FF13. 1 year would be completely feasible. 1) They already have the engine and dev tools done which is why FF13 took so long. 2) They have all the models for FMVs done from Advent Children. 3) They wouldn't be creating a brand new game from scratch. I think he's trolling.

dead.cell
Yeah, sounds like they're full of it to me. It's not like they have to write a storyline, come up with a new scenery, character creation, or create new game mechanics. Whether or not it could be done in a year is up in the air, but to suggest that it would take longer than creating a game from scratch sounds absolutely ridiculous. hotdog666al
Good; I hope they never re-make it. If they did, it'd ruin everything I bet! Only Squaresoft could do a decent job.

Only Squaresoft could do a decent job. While I agree with this sentiment I do think they'd leave it pretty much untouched, maybe add a little extra content and fix some of the engrish - Although you gotta admit some of the engrish is what made FF7 memorable :p If they go ahead they better NOT add voices, or at least make it optional. After all, there may be another reason why there aren't any populated towns in FFXIII....
EmpyreanUK
I get the feeling that the immense timescale Squenix are putting down as the reason for an FFVII remake (even if 12 years sounds a bit much) is the fact that the game was huge. Maybe my memory is distorted by time, but I remember it being bigger than the installments in the series that were released on the PS2; maybe not in terms of time, but more so in that the variety of locations was was both disparate and massive. I haven't had the chance to play FFXIII (I'm waiting for the post-dissertation deadline UK release date), but it may be the case that, with having to produce graphics of an HD resolution, Square Enix included a much more limited range of locations in a literal case of option for depth over breadth. Obviously any remake of FFVII would have to include all of the locations from the PSX original, and it could be that producing all of these at the kind of standard we expect from our HD turbo-consoles would take a huge amount of time. Maybe.

Ever since FF10, I've absolutely hated the voices. It's more like watching a film than playing an RPG these days.

Yes, that is BS. What that sentence is saying it would take 10.5 - 14 years to make! Yeah I don't think so!

Because I want it to be a remake, not a reinvisioning. Optional voices, okay, but again it's more money Square would need to spend. Look at what happened to that new Silent Hill game that was a redesign of Silent Hill 1, yeah okay it's getting some good scores, but is nothing like SH1. +jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted February 22, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted February 22, 2010 I actually understand that an FFVII will take ages to make. I mean it will never be a priority, but they'll want it to be quality. They'll probably just set aside a small team to re-build the entire game from scratch with a few updates/fixes/extra bits. Then all the voices and music would have to be recorded from scratch, which would take forever.

AltecXP
If they remade FFVII I'd buy a PS3.
Gotenks98
Its probably being remade now, they are just screwing with us as usual. I dont buy this crap it would take years to redo. Why would you not want to redo the biggest cash cow squaresoft has ever created? If anything Sony should have been helping them do it as it would have been the one thing I think that would have made many folks buy a ps3 for it. Hell they could charge $100 for this game and have it on 2 Discs I would buy it.

perochan
Ruby weapon is even better especially figuring out a winning strat by yourself. i didnt find Ruby weapon that hard. i figured it out after a few times. however, Emerald weapon took me countless times to perfect the steps and combos.
