If you need proof that social gaming is seeping into every corner of the world?s daily life, look no further than Zynga?s FarmVille, which passed the 80 million monthly user mark as of today.

According to statistics from All Facebook.com (via D?toid), the Facebook game has grown by 10 million since December.

Want more stats? Here?s some to ponder:

  • FarmVille had 31 million daily active users, up from around 27 million daily active users on Feb 2, 2009.
  • Weekly active users now stand at 54 million up from 49 million on Feb 2, 2009 with the game gaining 4 million daily active users in less than 2 weeks ? around 35 percent growth.

  • When Zynga launched a fund raising campaign for Earth Quake relief in Haiti, Farmville gamers donated more than $1 million by buying virtual gifts.
  • On Valentine?s Day, Farmville users sent more than 220 million Valentine?s Day virtual gifts in 18 hours.

  • Zynga launched some special Super Pumpkins during the fall, only available to users who were a fan of Farmville?s fanpage. This resulted in Farmville?s fanpage blasting past 20 million fans, up from 10 million in January.
  • Facebook now has 400 million registered users, up from 350 million users back in Dec, 2009. While Facebook gained 50 million users in the past two months, Farmville managed to acquire 10 million users ? a growth of around 14 percent for both Facebook and Farmville.

  • Out of the 200 million users who log in to Facebook every day, 15 percent are playing FarmVille.
  • 1.2 percent of the world population plays Farmville on a monthly basis.

Don?t bother sending us an invitation ? we have the application blocked.

Finally something better "outsells" MW2.

I don't see its popularity mind-blowing. The game is free, only requiring a flash supported browser and a Facebook account. It's probably fun to play (I never played it, but many of my friends do/did).

Many people here seem to be forgetting that it really doesn't require you to figure out a controller. Also, it's a game (like many others on Facebook) that can easily be played from work (unless Facebook's blocked). Makes great for those little breaks, so I can certainly see the wide-spread interest.

I used to play Mafia Wars with my boss even a few months back. :p

Farmville is retarded. I tried it out and forgot about my crops and they all withered and died.

Yes, that makes FarmVille retarded

And this is surprising *why*?

I've had a Facebook page for over a year, but I was unaware of the sheer amount of casual (and free!) gaming available because I never associated Facebook with gaming (instead, I always thought of it as a *social networking* site; silly me!).

Yes; I play FarmVille. (And Mobsters 2: Vendetta. And Mafia Wars (which is also available via Yahoo Games).) There is a HUGE connection between social networking and gaming (especially casual gaming); just look at how many OTHER social-networking sites host casual games (I mentioned Yahoo Games, but also add MySpace, Live.com [in case we have forgotten, it started off as a social-networking site outside of MSN], and even [egads] *Twitter*).

I uninstalled Farmville it got annoying. The market for these things is huge I think EA bought a company that made online games.

EA owns the Pogo.com online casual-gaming site, and has for years.

The reach of casual gaming has far outstripped Pogo, Facebook, or even Yahoo (which has the Yahoo Games casual-gaming micro-portal).

Besides, consider PopCap - casual gamning is *all* they do. (Plants vs. Zombies is a casual game.)

I'm ashamed to admit that my family is addicted to these games, My Father, Step-Mother, two Step-Sisters, and even my Uncle all play Farmville, and Farmtown, and Mafiawars, Mobwars and CafeWorld (I'm rather surprised there isn't a 'CafePlanet' or some other slightly different clone). Luckily I have managed to avoid the horrible addiction that is playing pointless games online, ahh well, I'm off to play some WoW.
