Valve changes its mind, is now

If we didn?t know any better, we?d say Valve wasn?t the PS3?s biggest fan.

Turns out, though, that the mega-developer wouldn?t give Sony?s monolithic box the time of day because it was too busy taking its time in an attempt to do PS3 development ?the right way.?

?Before we do anything on the PS3 we need to be able to support it in the right way,? Valve?s Chet Faliszek told Edge. ?But we?ll look at it, and I?m sure down the road we?ll do it.?

As for when we?ll see the fruits of Valve?s PS3 labors, we have no idea. Based on the incredible sense of urgency we felt emanating from Faliszek?s statement, though, we?d say that the year 2047 is a reasonable estimate.

Not really news, they have been slowly warming up to the PS3 for quite some time now; http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/02/valve-up-on-idea-of-ps3-development-waiting-to-build-talented/

Agreed, nobody should be surprised by this one. Developing for the PS3 is now substantially easier than it was just a couple years ago, meaning at least for Valve developing for the PS3 is a lot more cost effective.

**** Episode 3. Gimme the next expansion of -- er, I mean L4D3.

Such an unfortunate meme as it is another nail in the coffin for the PC market and it is also completely unfair. L4D2 has more added content, updated graphics, and overall improvement than any Call of Duty game going from the original Call of Duty all the way to Modern Warfare 2. L4D2 is a far better upgrade from L4D than MW2 was from MW yet MW2 enjoys being one of the highest selling games of all time while L4D2 enjoys being known as a glorified expansion pack.

Overall this will be very unfortunate for gamers when execs who only care about the bottom dollar see what MW2 did when it offered so little that was new.

Not to beat a dead horse, considering the horse is basically dog meat at this point, but notice no announcement of Portal 2 on PS3? And portal ran pretty well from Orange Box on PS3. Way to go, Valve, douchebags.

Just to point out Valve didn't port Orange Box to PS3, EA did. Have Valve actually made anything for the PS3?

Just shut up already and make your damn games. If we see a PS3 label on the box, then we'll know.

Getting tired of them being so openly indecisive...

Agreed.

Sick of hearing about Valve talk about the PS3.

If the damn media wouldn't ask Valve about the PS3 every other day, I am sure Valve wouldn't say jack about the PS3.

I don't think that would help, Gabe Newell makes a point of complaining at every possible juncture about whatever piece of technology is the latest thing to make his life difficult.

Yeah, but Gabe isn't calling for media interviews. Gabe also isn't the one that keeps asking about PS3 development. It's the media. If the media wouldn't bring up the PS3, I am confident Valve wouldn't either.
