Capcom comment further on Lost Planet 2 cuts

When Critical Gamer asked Capcom if they were prepared to comment further on the recently reported Lost Planet 2 cuts, their UK PR manager Leo Tan replied. This is the full statement they issued to us:

"Capcom's development teams have a reputation for creating some of the highest quality titles in the industry such as Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV. Editing the amount of content released with the final version of any game is a standard practice during game development. Edits to the initial concept of a game can come from a number of sources including the amount of time given to develop the title, hardware constraints, story elements, or other factors that can detract from the experience. We are confident that consumers will not be disappointed with Lost Planet 2 and the variety of massive Akrid, powerful vital suits, beautiful environments and deep level of customization included in the final product."

Ostensibly they're saying 'Lost Planet 2 is still great, please buy it'. And who can blame them? The following is pure speculation:

Is there anything to be gleaned from reading between the lines? Arguably, the DVD storage media could be filed under 'other factors that can detract from the experience' or possibly even 'hardware constraints'. Most interesting however, is mention of edits to the 'initial concept' of a game. Could this mean that Lost Planet 2 was intended to be more ambitious a project than the finished product, and the Xbox 360's DVD media held it back beyond mere content cuts?

It is interesting to speculate, at the very least, why multiformat games are exactly the same on DVD (maximum capacity approximately 9gb) and blu ray (maximum capacity approximately 50gb).

That reply was bleeding with PR fluff and spin.

Especially considering you had to buy RE5's online mode

Plus that game was not one of the highest quality titles in the industry, IMO.

They have nothing better to do I guess? Actually, they're just PR spinning this to hell, they want to lay blame on the media so they don't seem like the bad guys when they start charging you on DLC for stuff like the multiplayer that AB brings up.

If Capcom really wanted to, a 2nd dvd isn't a problem, and they could just as well split the MP parts onto their own disc. I think a offline and online disc for a game like this works fine.

hardware constraints

I've spent the first 3 years of this console gen watching all developers wining about the PS3 architecture and difficult SDK, now it looks like I'm going to spend the next 3 watching them wining, again, about the Xbox DVD9 space constraints

Because they need a reason to cut content & charge extra for it, yes...

Not saying the DVD9 space isn't an issue, but it's not like they wouldn't have already decided what to cut to sell later, even if it wasn't an issue.

Capcom should hire you for being so forthcoming

Aside from Capcom complaining, I'm really excited for LP2
