DrunknMunky Veteran Posted February 25, 2010 Veteran Share Posted February 25, 2010 I am guessing this is for ps3 and 360 games. PC games and wii games can be a lot cheaper then this. Serious sam games always are $20 not just the rwmakes but even new ones. Actually it is Nintendo who charge the most, then MS and then Sony are the cheapest. And Wii games are just as expensive, and they don't drop price anywhere near as quick. I bought a Wii just last year for the second time & planned to buy some of the games I missed out on. Smash Bros was only £5 less than it was when it came out! Ridiculous. PC gaming on the other hand is cheap as chips just about everywhere.
Alan-
I hardly can find any game (sans Fable and the rest of those) that I really am happy to hand over $60 for. And then they tack on DLC, so to get the full game it ends up being MORE than $60. Whoever came up with GameFly had a great idea as with all of the new crap games, no need to go buy them, just rent! That is one reason why I don't own many 360 games, I just simply don't see it as a worthwhile investment. I do have GTA, Fable 2 (and 1), and then a couple FPS', and NFS. But that just about satesfies my needs, I can run around a town and shoot someone, go online and shoot someone, go to a mythical land and change lifes, or just go race. Probably what I hate more than the prices of games is the prices of accessories. $60 for a controller? I mean that is getting pretty expensive. Garry
For the entertainment industry, that's pretty cheap. DVD: $15 for about 1.5 - 2 hours of value. Amusement Park - $50 for about 7 - 8 hours of value. Hooker - $100 - $500 for about 1 - 2 hours of value. Yeah, and at least hookers don't add margin for returns! I'm wondering if they pay royalties to the publishers for carrying their products
Skulltrail
This is an interesting breakdown, now, are the developer teams paid on % or on a flat rate? As far as I know, it is a flat rate but bonuses may be given if the game succeeds exponentially. :)
soniqstylz
Compare the price of a game to the cost of a night out. Drink + taxis + kebab/chips cost > current gen game cost. Which one stands you a better chance of getting laid?
Hedon
$100 for 1-2 hours with a hooker? Must be one ugly ass hooker. I figure I have a good 30-40 seconds for $100.
Argote
? Most titles just arent worth more than 20-30 imo...specially single player games. That's what's wrong with current games, people shun the single player element which (when done properly) blows away any multiplayer experience so developers don't put any effort into it. I'm all for good singleplayer campaigns but no matter how good it is, it simply doesn't offer the replayability of a good multiplayer experience. I'll pay $50 for a game with good SP and MP. Would I pay $50 for a game that's SP-only? Maybe, but it has to be very good. And MP-only, perhaps. Kinda makes you reconsider a purchase when a PC game sells for $60 (normal price is $50). Wondering what game that is? Here's a hint: It involves modern warfare and it's a sequel to Call of Duty 4. Yes, that's right... Modern Warfare 2. It's a game that's been out since November 2009 and it still sells for $60 on the PC. I don't know much about the costs of a game or who it's decided by, but I'm guessing the publisher has a say (considering they get the biggest share). Assassins Creed 2 for the PC as well... comes out March 9th I think. Console versions are less than $40 now. In a few months AC2 will be a lot less, but MW2 will probably still be $60.
MR_Candyman
ya, I gather the hype about MW2 is the multiplayer, because although I like the single player in most ways, one irritates me enough I just couldn't stand to play it anymore: infinite respawn. I LOATHE when I can't get past a section because they just keep spawning and spawning. I know I'm "supposed to" basically run through the game, but that's not how I want to play the game. That one fact ruins the whole singleplayer experience for me.
Billus
Game prices in Australia are an incredible rip-off. For new releases on consoles (I don't own a 360 or PS3 so it doesn't affect me) your looking at between $110-120, and that's not even the deluxe, collectors or special edition. PC games are roughly priced between $79-110 depending on the game. What really baffles me is digital downloads from ISP's. For example, Bigpond sells new games for the same price as when you buy it in stores yet you don't get fancy packaging or what not and they don't have a store (yes, a server needs to be run, big whoop). To me, it's no wonder why piracy is driving up because everything is going up in price, mainly due to governments (Labor, in Australia) inability to budget and spend accordingly and therefore introduce new taxes plus increase current ones and pass them off as a "green" tax. Raa
Now talk to me again about software piracy. What an absolute load of flipping rot. Modern Warfare 2. It's a game that's been out since November 2009 and it still sells for $60 on the PC. Seen the price on Steam lately? Refer to my previous comment. lothodon
Goozex people, goozex. But seriously, I only play single player games, and I refuse to pay $60 for ANY game. I'll wait out a price drop if I can't manage a trade for it.
