spenser.d
A wide rash of game-crashing errors is spreading among the PS3-owning community at the moment, most of which can be chalked up to a 8001050F error code. This has led to a variety of unfortunate side-effects for those affected, including corrupted trophy information and an inability to access the PSN. When combined, those two issues prevent players from launching certain games, such as Heavy Rain, without being kicked back to the XMB.We've contacted Sony to find out what's causing the issue, and when we can expect to get back to chasing down the Origami Killer. He might just be able to make a clean getaway while we suffer through this downtime. http://www.joystiq.com/2010/02/28/psn-is-down-some-titles-experiencing-game-crashing-errors/ Why on earth would it be a good idea to tie trophy data in such a way that if something like this happens, you can't play a game at all. At least when XBL goes down you can still play your games. -Spenser

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted March 1, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted March 1, 2010 I've played many games on my PS3 without the ethernet cable plugged in. Are they sure this isn't just happening to people "connected" to PSN? Want to play a game right now unplug your ethernet cable, trophies are stored locally on the PS3 then updated when you sync them online. I'm sure even just not logging into PSN will allow you to play Heavy Rain, it's not a multiplayer game doesn't matter if you're online or not. ambiance
Not being able to play Heavy Rain sucks balls, but I'm glad that it's not a problem on my end.

It looks like trophy data is corrupted which means it needs to sync with PSN before you can play any game. It's the first thing I tried when I got the error and still no luck. People effected basically can't do anything till it's fixed.

Ahh that sucks, so whenever the glitch happened if you were playing a game you now can't until it's fixed I guess? I can play stuff just now fine, but I haven't been playing any games today. Ah well here's hoping for a quick turnaround, PSN is usually very reliable and any downtime announced days in advance.

Dumas
I'm signed to PSN and I play to MAG now. On e of my friend said that is only poeple who have the "big" model have this problem. The one who have the "slim" can play signed into PSN...
soniqstylz
Someone figured out how to plant a virus on the PSN. Thank god I don't care about trophies, I shouldn't be affected. BTW, a common thread for people seems to be date/time error, changing to 12/31/99. I bet if people changed the date to the actual date on their PS3, it'd work ok. I have **** to do, otherwise I'd check myself.

x9248
I've haven't had any problems at all with my Slim :) Games, syncing trophies, and store all work fine. The "previews" for games in the store are loading somewhat slow tho.

Or it's a viral marketing campaign to get everyone to buy a slim PS3.

chrispinto
Well my ps3 set it's date to 31/12/1999. Manually set the date and time to correct values and still not able to access psn. Also since this began my dynamic themes have become inexplicably corrupt. I have a late 2008 80gig ps3 fatty as a side note, Im glad I checked neowin, I was about to format and restore the whole system X_X All around the world, PlayStation 3 consoles simply aren't working like they're supposed to, with a PlayStation Network error preventing people from not just going online, but from playing some PS3 games offline as well. From Europe to the Americas to, well, my house in Australia, users are complaining that upon booting their consoles up, they're unable to sign into their accounts, check their trophies or access the PlayStation Network. That's fine, Sony say there are PSN connection problems, and that they are "looking into it". Problem is, the error does more than just prevent you from going online. It prevents you from playing certain games offline as well. The screen above is what I was greeted with when attempting to play Heavy Rain, and pressing out of it simply reboots the PS3, returning you to the main menu screen. It's the same story for other games that feature dynamic trophy support. Sony say "stay tuned" for updates on the problem. In turn, we'll update if we hear anything more. http://m.kotaku.com/site?sid=kotakuip&pid=JuicerHub&targetUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fkotaku.com%2F5482328%2F%3Fop%3Dpost%26refId%3D5482328
