ripprasternode
This forum is no longer a comfortable place to talk about customizing windows, I've seen it deteriorate over the last few years. Particularly since Windows 7 "Leave it the way it is" has become almost a religion here, embracing default settings and "features", saying that all new "features" are good shows your faith and gains you acceptance here in the customizing windows forum. Questions relating to customizing windows must now be asked with caution and careful wording to avoid insults and off topic "debate" There are two distinct groups of people forced to congregate in this forum. The "Customizing Windows" group and the "Leave it the way it is" group. In most threads these groups come into conflict. Debate is a healthy thing but as you can see from most threads here it's also disruptive. Threads often end up like this, OP "How do I... ?" Reply "Why would you do that!" Followed by page after page of disruptive "debate" by people who do not know the answer and have no intention of helping the OP in any way. It seems grosely unfair that only one of these groups has a dedicated forum. Please give the "Leave it the way it is" group a forum of their own. A place where they can talk about all the reasons not to customize windows without being trolled by those who want to modify it. iamwhoiam, Chester0, +XamlMonkey and 7 others 10 Share

Rudy
I agree, I was reading the thread about the guy who wanted to use a WinXP style explorer in Win7 and it was really annoying the amount of people who'd just post "get with the time" etc etc
+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted March 2, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted March 2, 2010 You're right, people should start offering helpful responses to posts instead of completely ignoring the question and giving their opinion.

DeusProto
I agree, I was reading the thread about the guy who wanted to use a WinXP style explorer in Win7 and it was really annoying the amount of people who'd just post "get with the time" etc etc Absolutely. Many assume that everyone has a pile of money laying around to run around and buy new hardware every few months to run the latest OS. Also, I concur with the OP. jelli
You've posted on Neowin twice and then start a rant topic? It's not about posting, it's not pleasant at all to read things such as "Get with the times!" etc, and discourages people from posting again. Heck the BF:BC2 thread turned into an awful topic the last day or two. Anyway problems only get dealt with when they are brought to the attention of people who can deal with it, thankfully though 99% of the people here are good, they just need a nudge in the right direction now and then ;)

SugarCain
You've posted 104 times and question another user? You hold post-count as some form of hierarchy? Nope. Just pointing out that the OP started this topic and has posted a total of 2 times. Doesn't seem like he/she was involved enough to begin with. Whether they have been active or not however, the OP is completely right.

MikeChipshop Member Posted March 2, 2010 Member Share Posted March 2, 2010 I agree, to many people these day's will force there opinion on people who just wonder how to do something they want to do. The reason a lot of us visit that forum is because we enjoy poking around with things, for me something that 'just works' is boring :D
iamwhoiam
You've posted on Neowin twice and then start a rant topic? And why should post counts be a consideration for what topics can be started I still think the post counts and join dates should be private to discourage your type of reply. SugarCain
And why should his/her number of posts be a consideration? I've already addressed that question.

Rudy
moved here what would be posted in this forum? threads on how to "leave it the way it is"? isnt that self explanatory? I think it's more of a complaint about certain posters in some threads than an actual request for a new subforum :P
Growled Member Posted March 2, 2010 Member Share Posted March 2, 2010 I think it's more of a complaint about certain posters in some threads than an actual request for a new subforum :p Maybe it's a little of both. Anyway, what is really needed is for a few on this site to stop with all the arguing and being just general asses about things and start being helpful. If you can't be helpful then just move along to another thread. My 2 cents anyway. ripprasternode 1 Share
