Favourite FPS Storyline?

Recommended Posts

I know FPS games are mostly praised nowadays for their MP components, story seems to have been less of a focus in many, so if anyone agrees with me what's some of your older favourites?

I think I'd have to go with Clive Barkers Undying/Dues Ex or System Shock 2, avoiding the obvious Bioshock/HL mentions.

Story is top of my list in games, and I'm a SP gamer more than MP gamer, so with all the drama surrounding COD/IW/Activison today I found myself asking when was the last time I actually managed to play a SP campaign from start to finish in an FPS game without getting bored... and I think it was Bioshock.

This is a hard one. I'm a bit bias towards Halo, merely because of the surprise with the Flood. But if I were to ignore that, it would probably be a tie between Bioshock and the original Half Life.

I quite like Halo's story, although I think the whole series has unfortunately been marred by it's fans and it's haters.

And Half-Life, but that's pretty much a given.

I need to play Bioshock and Mass Effect, they both look interesting (and the first two Fallout games, I do own them).

Mass Effect is an RPG, that story owns all...

One of my favourite old FPS games was Soldier of Fortune II - Double Helix. So I'd probably go with that. I'm sure there's others but that's the only one that comes to mind right now. Max Payne wouldn't really pass as an FPS.

Mass Effect is not a FPS.

Either System Shock 2, Deus Ex (No love for these classics here) or Half-Life 2 (including episodes).

I love the story from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games  The Half-Life saga is pretty good too :D And without a doubt the story in the Deus Ex games is great, shame the second game itself was a bit crap  The Elder scrolls games are pretty good too, as they have a HUUUUGGEE amount of history and lore behind them...

Not sure if Portal fits into it, but yeah, I liked Portal. First FPS type game I've actually bothered to finish all the way through(I'm more of a multiplayer person, I usually get very bored of single player modes)

after Portal I finished playing Half-Life 2, I was hooked on it. So I think those 2 games had a really good story that drew me in.

Half-Life 2. I love how it just throws you in the story and expects you to know it, and it works.

Bioshock. It has an amazing story.

Never was a big fan of Halo's story. It just never flowed well for me.

The Half-Life series. Not only because the story itself is great, but the way it's presented is second to none.

Almost forgot about this one. Definitely my favourite story in an FPS, by a landslide really.

As for other games, Fallout 3 presented its story quite well, even if it wasn't particularly complex, and I realize that it has an unfair advantage over other games since its more of an RPG than an FPS. And Bioshock of course, just for the way that it handled the storyline, where you essentially got what you put in.

Has to be the HL saga for me. Bioshock probably comes in second.

A very close third would be The Darkness. I really loved that game, i thought it had brilliant story driven gameplay and it felt brilliant. Fingers crossed for a sequel!

The Halo storyline, specifically Halo: CE for one reason only. The level, Guilty Spark 343 I think it was called. When you are first introduced to the flood. Brilliance in story telling at the time (Y)
