can't copy folders to flash drive

Recommended Posts

Mac OS 10.6.#

Transcend JF V30 8GB flash drive.

I suddenly can't copy folders to the flash drive. It'll say "The operation can't be completed because an item with the name "Folder Name" already exists." It won't let me replace it. Then it creates that folder on the flash drive.

I can can create folders on the drive; i just can't copy them over...

However, I can copy any file type I want to it.

Any ideas?

Seems you're not alone. From what I can gather from skimming the posts there the issue affects FAT32/NTFS drives and was introduced with 10.6.2. 10.6.3 should be just around the corner so perhaps that will fix it. Can you use HFS?

There's a possible workaround near the end of page 5 if you want to try that:

it happens to me in the exact same situations... but my workaround has been a bit different. i've been using automator: actions - get files from finder - copy files, or either: action - sync folders

I actually has a problem last night with a slightly older Kingston 16GB on Win7. I could only Quick Format it and it would start copying but quit. I formatted in XP and copied files over fine. I just thought it was odd coincidence except for yours being a MAC.

Yea I tried that like 5 times on my two computers.

Then I took the drive to my girlfriend's iBook w/ 10.4 and it worked just fine on there. So there's an issue w/ 10.6.#.
