Atari Officially Announce Test Drive Unlimited 2

Recommended Posts

Atari has announced Test Drive Unlimited 2, which developer Eden Studios is looking to expand beyond the borders of the previous game, pushing the envelope with something they've dubbed M.O.O.R.

The acronym stands for Massively Open Online Racing, meaning that the online world is a persistent one where players can compete or team-up and share content.

Test Drive Unlimited 2's single-player and multiplayer aspects will seamlessly complement one another as according to the press release, TDU2 is "always live," with automatic updates and a narrative mode that's playable in both single and multiplayer.

Eden is also promising realistic vehicle performance and dynamics, as well as a damage model, weather effects, a day/night cycle and a completely new island to explore.

Expect a slew of licensed cars and a greater level of customisation too, in addition to buying clothes and hot beachside property like before.

Test Drive Unlimited 2 will be even more unlimiteder it seems and is due for Autumn 2010, or this Fall, if you like.

I CAN'T WAIT! Even four years after the first game released, I am still playing it! The graphics still look amazing.

This sequel will offer the persistent, open-world multiplayer racing of its predecessor, while introducing new elements such as vehicle damage, day and night cycles, and weather.

The press release promises "the world's most desirable vehicles," but we all know the best part of Test Drive Unlimited was the fancy clothes you could buy for your character. We can't wait to see what exciting fashion lines TDU2 brings to the table.

Excellent, I loved the first one, I was just playing it again last week (Y)

Loved it as well, though a mate of mine currently has my disc :pinch:

I'll have to get it back now, the announcement has made me want to play again :p

Great, I loved TD:U! Just hope there's more focus on bringing players together and actually make you feel part of a 'society'

My major gripe with the first one was how you could drive around and just feel totally lonely, even though there were other online drivers there..

Any hints from Eden/Atari whether they're sticking to Hawaii, or moving it to a different island?

Mmmm, Gumpert Apollo.

lol! Just said the exact same thing to a mate over IM ;)

The ONE thing they have to get right on this is engine noises.. they just sucked nuts on Test Drive Unlimited. If they can get them as good as they are in Forza 3, I'll be very very happy!

I find it hard to believe that it will be coming out in Autumn 2010!

Why not? The first one came out in September 2006. The sequel has probably been in the pipeline for a couple of years now.

I loved the first one it was just way to buggy, can remember in the beta every time they'd fix a bug they'd end up adding 2 more

There's some new high resolution renders published by the German gaming magazine PCgames on their website

By the look of this render, the cars will be able to do some type of transformation (?)

Interesting... blink.gif

I was going to suggest that it might have been a really flamboyant car selection screen, but the car the Lambo transforms into retains some of its carbon fibre body parts, so it looks like it does transform. :shiftyninja:
