Valve Leaks Teaser Images for Upcoming Mac Game Announcement

Recommended Posts

So what, a game or two for Mac? And only Valve? Yea, people who think Macs are going to replace PC gaming anytime soon are POORLY mistaken.

I used to have 4 PC's (which were also used for gaming )at home, and now I have replaced those with 4 Mac's at home which I have a couple games on, and now more to come!

does a little dance...makes a little love.....

Eager gamers have no doubt already seen the teasers, but Valve has now finally confirmed that its Steam game distribution service and Source engine will at long last be headed to the Mac. According to Valve, the company's current line-up of games (including the Half-Life and Left 4 Dead series) will be available to Mac users in April, while Portal 2 will represent the company's first simultaneous release for PC and Mac later this year. Better still, Steamworks for Mac also boasts a new feature called "Steam Play," which will let you buy a game once and, for instance, start playing it on a PC at work and then pick up where you left off on your Mac at home (we'll give you a moment to let that sink in). Game publishers will have to enable that feature themselves, but Valve says it expects most to take advantage of it.

Damn that Valve. You gotta love to hate them, and hate to love them.

Valve are huge though. Having them come out and say that they consider Windows, Mac and Xbox 360 to be their main platforms says a lot about the current state of gaming.

Great announcement all around.

More players to play with in your favourite games can't be a bad thing. (Y)

I don't think anyone is under the impression that Macs are going to replace PCs in terms of gaming. I think people are just happy that one of the biggest computer developers out there is finally going to start supporting the Mac -- and it just so happens that they're the biggest online content distributor out there for gaming. It's a win-win for gamers. No, the Mac won't overtake Windows-based computers, but what does it hurt to have another option?

I enjoy Macs and Windows computers equally, honestly. This will definitely make my next computer purchase harder.

What gets me excited is that L4D will be on the Mac too. Which means more people to play with.

Ehhh. I enjoy the Left 4 Dead games, but something about them just bores me very quickly.

Yes, Valve's entire catalogue consists of just 2 games.

Edit: Oh yeah, actual content. Valve's also bringing over the SDK to OS X, which is nice to see.

Wait, does that mean we get Half-life: Source? That's something I might be able to play on this.

What are you running on, a Performa?

 It's an Intel Mac, but it's got an X3100 integrated graphics chip. I assumed I wouldn't be able to play anything half-decent on it after getting around 15fps with Lost Coast on Boot Camp.

If all else fails, just hope that PopCap will port the free Peggle Extreme to the Mac. Still an excellent time waster... until you try out the full version ;)

I got Peggle Nights free by following the instructions here. You can get the Windows and/or Mac versions.

wow dude angry much? ive seen a lot of flaming between 360 and ps3 users (which is also pretty pointless) but i have never seen someone so bitter about another platform getting something. think about dude more people can now enjoy steam and thats all that matters.

will i download steam? probably. will i buy games? probably not. you see the thing is with my mac ive gotten so used to no games being on it that im ok with playing my ps3 and 360 on my 42" LCD and keeping my mac for graphic design and other work. But even though im not going to use the service i can totally see the impact this is gunna have on gaming.

day one launch of steam for mac and ALL valve games on the service will be up and running and ready to go WITHOUT AN ADDITIONAL COST

then all the 3rd parties (if they didnt already think this) is gunna say we should have/ need to have our games ready for the mac on launch.

open the floodgates.

steam on mac = more devs converting games to that platform = no more crazy prices for existing mac games = great for everyone who owns a mac

steam on mac = cross platform gaming = less limitations between friends = more fun! :)

FUN! :) :) :)
