A discussion on hotmail security

Tom    1,190

Today me and a friend discussed the security of both Hotmail(www.hotmail.co.uk) and Google mail(www.mail.google.com)

We both acknowledged that Gmail was much more secure because it is https and hotmail is http.

BUT, hotmail has a extra option under the login details for "Enhanced security" which then turns it into https.

The question that was raised is, why haven't Microsoft set this as default? Wouldn't that be the much more obvious option?
