Typh0n
Since @home went down and I had to switch over to AT&T Broadband, I am having problems with my network connection. It seems Windows keeps forgetting how to use my network connection. I called AT&T support, but they didn't have any answers in the database. The *******s ran me around for a couple of days and are very incapable of supplying any kind of technical support other than the basics. Here is the setup and the problem... Setup: Windows XP Computer, Linksys Cable Router, AT&T Cable Broadband Problem: I start IE or Netscape and can't browse to any webpages. I receive the DNS error, "Address cannot be found, check network settings". My Workaround: I go to my network setting folder, right-click on the Local Area Connection, then select "Repair This Connection". This allows me to browse for a little while (about 5-10 minutes) then I have to do it over again. Help, can I fix this without formatting and re-installing? grrinder
Hello Typh0n, disable the dns client in the services app.
KNIGHT
I've had the exact same problem with the same people. The interesting thing is that it is just a WinXP issue. My other computer is running WinME and doesn't have the problem. I'll try disabling the DNS Client service. So far, the workaround I've been using is to tweak the DNS Cache setting (make it bigger). Add the text below to a file named dnscache.reg and I figure you know what to do with a reg file: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesDnscacheParameters] "CacheHashTableBucketSize"=dword:00000001 "CacheHashTableSize"=dword:00000180 "MaxCacheEntryTtlLimit"=dword:0000fa00 "MaxSOACacheEntryTtlLimit"=dword:0000012d
