Guess what? Ten years ago to the day, Sony launched PlayStation 2 in Japan.

The console was first shown at a Japanese event in 1999. Launch titles were limited, with Ridge Racer 5 and Street Fighter EX3 standing out.

The machine went on to launch later that year in both the US and EU, hitting on October 26 and November 24 respectively. PS2 has gone on to become the best-selling under-the-TV console of all time, selling over 140 million units, with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas being its best-selling game.

Gran Turismo's 3 and 4 are the second and third best-selling games respectively.

Congrats to it. May it soldier on for a while longer.

Woo! Got my PS2 in 2002 and it's still working. Good memories of getting it with GTA Vice City and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 for Christmas. :)

I still play GT3 and some of the GTA's from time to time. Went through MGS on my PS1 not long ago too, might have to play MGS2 again. :)

I still prefer my PS1, due to it being 12 years old and still works like a champion.

I don't like the slim PS2, the power supply is about the same size of the actual console :p

They've got newer slims now without the power brick and without that weird ridges design.
