Strange Folder

Recommended Posts

Today I noticed a weird folder on my C: it's called BDE and there are two sub folders inside of it, one is called Cache and the other is called Temp.

Anybody knows what program might have created this folder? I can't find out what is that folder good for, and if it's safe to delete or not.

Thanks in advance.

Looks like the folder has been there for a while, I recently re-formated and did clean XP install, so I have installed a million applications, not sure which one created this, I think it might have been the driver for my DSL modem provided by my ISP but not sure.

Thanks for your help.

I think it is something like MySQL, but if you installed it you would probably know about it. :)

It is obvioulsy something else and it is up to you whether to delete it or not. People are running XP without this folder, so I think it would be safe to delete.

Thank you jardragon901, I think you are right, I have that program on my ADD/REMOVE programs , I never remember installing it though, weird how it got there in the first place.

I might end up leaving it there as it might help viewing 3D content on the web as you said.

Aco thank you but I think jardragon901 got the point.

Well I dont have Morpheous, I have Kazaa which is more or less the same program, So I guess it might have been Kazaa that installed that program.

Ok, hold on here.. BDE - Borland Database Engine is a common set of libraries to access databases, be it MSSQL or Paradox.

BDE is a layer between an application and the database used.

Nothing harmful or any spyware here.. These are just database "drivers"...

And yes, it is not impossible for Morpheus to install it, but again, it does no harm (only eat up some mb's).

The BDE folder is installed to allow you to view/use 3d graphics rendered by an application. It is something that was installed without your notice and is not a spyware. I forgot the name of the player itself but i do know that i removed it, because i'd rather not have anything that didn't ask me for my permission.

Remove it but there's no harm if otherwise.
