Rozeae
hi guys, it seems that my macbook pro seems to become burning hot on my lap (not to the point where im being scalded or anything like that) but running extremly warm and all i have open at the time is Mail and Safari. At this point in time i'm thinking of returning it and getting a refund now anyway and waiting for the new i5 and i7 processors to come or get an iMac tbh. Is anyone elses getting this hot or is it a common Mbp alu thing? my old crappy windows laptop got hot but not half as hot as this!!!!
crazzyyfool
Which MBP is it? Does it have two graphics cards? I know when I run mine with the 512MB 9600M GT it runs a lot hotter than with the 256MB 9400M.
Elliott
If you keep it flush against your lap and block the air vents in the back (they're along the hinge), it'll get hot. Otherwise, my 13" MBP stays very cool for me.

Dance.
It's bad to keep a laptop on your lap. Don't want the family jewels to vaporize do we now :p.

Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted March 5, 2010 Veteran Share Posted March 5, 2010 I know my MacBook 13in Alluminum model will get to around 68 Degrees while i am playing World of Warcraft, however, i always keep it on a table. Also a friend of mine his macbook got to hot while playing WoW that the rubber booty started to melt to the table.
Brian M. Veteran Posted March 5, 2010 Veteran Share Posted March 5, 2010 To give a comparison, my 2.8GHz MacBook Pro runs at 48oC Idle on the 9400m, and 67oC while doing 2D simulation robot simulation on the 9600m. You can use SMC Fan Control to see the temperature and speed up fans when gaming (I sometimes speed my fans up when it's on my lap).
Rozeae
I am sadly taking it back tomorrow, the battery will not charge to 100% alwats sticking at 98% and also it's getting burning hot when im only browsing the web.....not even running any intensive apps......simply 2 window open in Safari and it's burning hot  i'm gonna sqitch it tomorrow and pay the ?51 difference to get the Alu iMac i think
Brian M. Veteran Posted March 5, 2010 Veteran Share Posted March 5, 2010 The battery will not charge between 95 and 100%. If you let it go down to 94%, and then re-charge it should go up to 100%.

Rozeae
Nope, just the likes of the Playstation forums, Xbox forums, DigitalSpy, Engadget etc.
Serenity76
Nope, just the likes of the Playstation forums, Xbox forums, DigitalSpy, Engadget etc. Most of which make extensive use of flash. Install a flash blocker in safari, then browse those sites, and see how it affects heat. You might be surprised.
Rozeae
Is this a Macbook specific problem then? my old crappy windows laptop could access those sites no problems without these types of problems :(
Serenity76
Is this a Macbook specific problem then? my old crappy windows laptop could access those sites no problems without these types of problems :( No, it's an Adobe-specific problem, in that Adobe writes **** software, and the flash client they put out for OS X sucks.
