New to Final Fantasy, just bought 13 for PS3 today

The game gets really technical dude. You'll be focusing on staying alive and planning a strategy to beat enemies and bosses. The game gets a lot better after chapter 3.

I don't actually play video games much to be honest. I played Uncharted and LOVED it. Probably because it was similar to Zelda which is all I have played RPG wise before. I figured FF was sort of similar but different but it was just totally different. I tried for 6 hours which is a while but I didn't really enjoy the whole "play a movie" or "play a book" style. I guess they just didn't "feel" like a game to me so couldn't enjoy it.

Lets say for example next week you somehow get a free copy of FF13, would you still continue playing from your last save?

This is why it's always a good idea to rent the game if possible before you go and blow $70 on a game. I usually rent first unless I know 100% that I will enjoy it (eg: Battlefield Bad Company 2).

The battle system is one of the worst I have seen, though I haven't played that many jRPGs.. maybe it's to be expected. I'm fairly sure if some unknown western company would have released the game, no one would be playing it.

I don't blame you dude.. I"m the same. I just don't like any RPGs at all. Diablo, WOW, Zelda, .. I found them really boring. I guess it's not my type of game either. I"m not bashing at all.. it's just it's not my cup of tea.

What about Mass Effect?

I have to agree with the OP. I have been playing FF games for about 20 years and this has probably got to be the least compelling in the series.

Same here as I am sure a lot of members who frequent the GH already know. I am not into RPG's at all. Even Mass Effect I could not get into. Way to much talking. More power to people that do like these games though, it sure does seem like you get your moneys worth. (Y)

Larry, I'm really surprised you could not get into Mass Effect 2. It's personally one of the best games I've ever played. You could even skip the talking

I really do understand why people cannot get into Fallout 3 or Mass Effect 1 though. They present what some people call "the hump" really early in the game. This is a low point in the game where players either stop playing all together or completely love the game right after it. In Fallout 3, it's megaton, and in Mass Effect 1 its The Citadel. That's why I love Mass Effect 2 because they got rid of "the hump" design altogether.

Perhaps FF13 has "the hump?" And the hump is 25 hours long?

Yeah it's kind of a shock to me that you couldn't get into Mass Effect DL

I couldn't get into Fallout 3 but I kept playing it and then began to understand my surroundings better and my experience improved.

I'm really enjoying this one (although I'm much more excited for 13 Versus). The beginning is very easy; however, after chapter 3 everything gets much more strategic. I am enjoying this battle system much more than 12's or 10's.

if you guys are loving the battle system you guys would LOVE the tales series. the system seems like a verison of that one but on steroids, it's awesome. Tales games IMO have the best battle systems until i played this game... hope all FF games are like this from now on. Even the battle system in crisis core for PSP was pretty good.

You know what's weird? I completely forgot today that this game came out for Xbox 360.

It's like you knew before it came out for both consoles but you know from another thought that this franchise had most of its life been on PlayStation and Nintendo.

I AM WITH YOU 100%

i am not a big rpg player, but i did play quite a few back in the day and loved them.

i never played FF. i picked up this one purely on hype, and i could not believe how boring the story and the fighting was for the first hour. after the cutscene it is just unexciting.

i was expecting way more, considering that the other good rpgs i played, sucked me into the story from the beginning.

someone please tell me it is going to get much much better later... otherwise i am selling it, and getting something else instead.
