Hello again Home Community,I am thrilled to be back on the PlayStation.Blog to share some exciting news. Tomorrow we will be launchingPlayStation Home 1.35, a new client update that will include some very significant enhancements that will make your PlayStation Home experience even better.

This update will bring several of the changes that you, the PlayStation Home community, have said are most important to you. Most notably, this update features faster load times, giving you quicker access to PlayStation Home and all the great content within. The new 1.35 update also enhances the login process. Now, once you have launched into PlayStation Home from the XMB, you will be transported directly to a new intuitive navigator, without the need to click through message screens.

Like much of PlayStation Home, the design of this new navigator is directly based on community feedback on how to improve access to the content used most in PlayStation Home. This streamlined interface features categories to help you quickly move through PlayStation Home and locate friends in just a few clicks.

Categories will include:

Favorites: Personalize your own section to make locating your favorite places quick and simple.

Personal Spaces: Your clubhouses and personal spaces are now right at your fingertips. The personal spaces you own and the clubhouses you belong to will be viewable in one convenient location.

Friends: Finding your friends in PlayStation Home has never been easier. View the current location of your friends in PlayStation Home, and then navigate there to enjoy the action together.

Explore: Browse all the spaces PlayStation Home offers. Finding a space that suites your taste and mood has never been easier.

Recommend: Keep up with what's hot in PlayStation Home. This regularly updated category will feature the newest and most exciting additions to PlayStation Home.

Just a reminder that PlayStation Home will not be accessible for a brief period tomorrow as we work the magic on our side to bring you this update. If you have any questions or comments, as always, please drop us a note in the PlayStation Home forums.

With now 12 million users around the world playing games, attending special events, watching videos, listening to music, and meeting new friends, there has never been a better time to join the PlayStation Home community. For those of you that are already part of the party, with tomorrow's 1.35 update, I think you'll agree that everything you love about PlayStation Home just got that much better.

Nice to see Sony still working on Home instead of alienating it. I don't see this as a benefit really to the PS3. However, the little time I had in Home was pretty sad. The load times and terms of agreement just to access Home was just dumb. It looks like they are addressing that based on community feedback now. Thumbs up.

Btw your news post is UNREADABLE in Darkside.

Ontopic: Sony needs to focus on actual firmware and not HOME.

Better?

No anger detected. I didn't even realize we had other themes for the forums, so I never considered the text. It must have been the HTML from within my Google Reader.

Glad it's fixed now!

Is there even any point in installing Home?

It sounds kind of lame.

Well what I messed with it was kind of lame, just a bunch of walking around... Had to buy stuff for you "Home" just pointless if you ask me...

I've tried Home in it's various states since it started. The original idea sounded brilliant, but it sadly wasn't implemented all that well. Over time they have been getting their act together though, and it's interesting to see the little additions that game developers add to it following the release of a title.

I had good fun doing the little quest they had running a while back, but it's slow progression made me stop using Home in general. It was only the other day that I took a look at it again, and it was good to see that a lot more content had been added (although the quest and "secret area" seem to have disappeared?).

However, I agree that paying for virtual items is one step that I'm not willing to take. I'm interested in learning how much Sony have made from the Home purchases so far.

The part of the update that I'm most happy about here is the favourites section. With so many areas now available, I find it difficult to navigate around.

While I'm no frequent user of home, I was happy that they actually delivered with the promised reduced load times in todays update. (Y) It now takes about 5 sec to switch between areas.. earlier it felt like I was back on 56k modem days. New navigator screen looks better and more streamlined as well.

I have yet to update however, that is a good thing, i also felt as if it was dial up speed when switching areas. i was never really sure as to why it took so long.

I just dont understand why they have a mall with friggin' two stores (and then the same ones on the next floor) when they could use the mall as a launching point for all of the content providors areas. Whoever pays more to get bigger spaces in the mall or more noticable spaces or whatev. Why are most of the areas not integrated into the actual landscape and only accessible through the menu?

Why do I have to 'install' every area that I ever go into. The standard areas (mall lobby, music center, bowling alley, movie thatre, etc) should all be included as part of the main installation and travel between these places should be seamless. If I want to go into the EA Sports area then that can install but for all of the main places on the map there is no reason to have them separated and have loading screens and UAC like popups asking if you are sure you want to travel anywhere. Also, I can't remember if the main installation was, but when you make everything listed above part of the default download and install, allow it to happen in the background.

EDIT: I opened parenth and forgot to close them. Another tangent, as it were.

people actually use this eh? i tried it the day i got my playstation when i was taking a break from MGS4 and nothing since then...

I got my PS3 about two months ago and since then I've gone into it a few times to see what all there is in there. It's an awesome concept but I don't think there's any clear direction as to what they expect to do with it. if it tied into XMB or gave some other reason to start it up every day I think people would care more about it and would be more willing to do the microtransactions. But currently it's an adfest with great graphics and a pointless "apartment" space that doesn't have any benefit whatsoever. That should really be the starting point for all of your personal stuff, system settings, game library, show which friends are logged in, etc. Why spend real money on furniture and clothing just to look at an avatar standing there doing nothing?

Home is little more than an afterthought to Mii's and the NXE. At least Microsoft decided to integrate the avatars with the rest of the experience and make it part of your persona on Live. If home was where you had to go to watch movies (I hear they just struck a landmark deal with the studios) listen to music, party up to play multiplayer games and such, then there would be more care and effort put into it. They should make it the place to go to watch DVD's and BD's as well, rather than just launching everything from the XMB. The XMB should serve simply as the popup menu when you press the playstation button during play and such, rather than using it as the main interface IF they want people to care about and get into using Home. Otherwise the XMB is a great interface that serves all of the needs of the PS3 currently.

if it tied into XMB

IMO, that is where it failed. I think HOME would be a success and used more if somehow it was more integrated into your dashboard experience, and online presence.

+1. The apartment SHOULD BE the dashboard experience.

Becuase every area is segmented as a different game. That's why I felt that all of the basic areas around the hub should be part of the initial install, you should be able to move freely between them with no loading and without answering stupid questions.

It needs more integration with the rest of what the PS3 has to offer. Game launching is a nice touch.

I can't get to the link while at work, but does it mention launching PS3 games from Home in there? I feel like the personal space should provide all of the same functionality as the XMB. the XMB should still be accessible by pressing the PS button on the controller.
