DirtyLarry Veteran Posted March 13, 2010 Veteran Share Posted March 13, 2010 I could not disagree more with the sentiments being expressed in this thread that Home should somehow be part of the main OS of the PS3. While I do agree it without a doubt needs tighter integration with the XMB, I never, ever would want it to be something I am forced to use. It just simply has to remain a choice to use it. IMO one of the biggest aspects that they really failed on with Home is they never delivered on the promise that it would be an interface to gather with friends to then all play the same game together. Routerbad
I could not disagree more with the sentiments being expressed in this thread that Home should somehow be part of the main OS of the PS3. I don't think and don't believe ever said that people should be forced to use it. I just believe that it should be an option to start the PS3 into Home where from your personal space you can do everything that would be possible through the XMB. I really only think the personal space should be more tightly integrated, as everything available there should affected you locally. The rest of Home could run the same way it does today, albeit with more content. Does anyone else feel like they should be able to walk into stores and see available items the way they would appear in a store? Clothing and accessories on shelves and mannequins and maybe small models of homes, furniture on the floor. It is a digital space, they could pull off some Harry PotEDITter like space usage. I also want to be able to jump, sprint, and do combat rolls, but that's being greedy! EDIT: Maybe even pull a knife on someone to steal their digital content or rob their personal space too
1337ish
Home had potential but like usual Sony went to try and make money out of it first and commercialised it before launch. I would have loved it if they had gone free-reign city approach and say got the guys from lbp to help master a way to make it easy to make building etcs, THEN once its popular add possible commercial sides to it. TBH if they added home as the *background* of xmb when you load and then you hit the ps3 button to switch to it over to *home* mode (just imagine like you would in a game) it would have been much better tbh. I honestly didn't think of it from this perspective and agree with you now that I've heard it put this way wrt commercialization before implementation. There is SO much potential within Home and if they made everything a little more GTAIV and less second life it would be better IMO. I really don't think loading screens are necessary when walking 100m to a different building and such. I would also like to be able to do more than just look around with the character. The is very limited interaction, which is centered around a bunch of streaming media scattered throughout the world. Some of the free games are fun, but they are limited (I wish EA would put sports minigames in their space like Nascar racing, a boxing match, quarterback drills, and a dunk comp). The world should also be bigger, and have a couple modes of transportation, rather than loading screens (TD:U comes to mind). All of the dev spaces are dijointed and not set up as actual real estate. I think this would force devs to create a space that isn't so spread out and uncomfortable to navigate(EA, Sodium).

I think the same can be said for all companies this generation? I think they needed to get some revenue to offset the fact that the PSN is free. The beauty of HOME is that you don't need to use it if you don't want. Other companies force charges on you to use the core features (XBL for example). Yeh but home is an example where doing this wont pay off as people see it for what it is, a micro payment mall with a few fluffy games and trailers. It could have been so huge if they did second life style but held off taking crappy stores into everything, aka playing the long game and make it easy for people to make content for it. I would have loved to have modeled a crazy club or something in it without breaking the bank. I really think if it had a lot more second life/lbp it would be much more then it is now. As for psn v xbl although psn is free its rather crap by comparison imo and the download speeds are a joke for most things but thats for another thread. As for the PSN being crappy, I really don't agree with you at all and I've no problems with any speeds - like you say though, it's for another conversation in another place.
