Splitscreen Coop Games: The Best?

Recommended Posts

Me and my buds are looking for some decent splitscreen coop games. Yes, splitscreen, if I have someone sitting next to me I'd rather play with them right there than have to deal with anything online.

I've played:

Gears of War 1/2

R6V and R6V2

Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST

L4D

Borderlands

I'm not really counting MW2 because Spec Ops isn't the same as a full blown campaign to me.

Oh, and Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, if that still counts. Hopefully no PS3 exclusives, I'm a 360 kind of guy, but I'm open to new games :)

Castle Crashers, Worms 2: Armageddon, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Turtles in Time Reshelled, Aegis Wing, and South Park Lets Go Tower Defense Play are great Co-Op games and support up to 4 players. Fable II is also fun but only supports 2 players and one person gets stuck playing the toadie. I haven't played Toy Soldiers in Co-Op yet but the single player is a lot of fun.

Army of Two: The 40th Day is great.

The first one isn't terrible, but it got boring for me. My roommate and I have been playing the latest for quite a while though. If you're looking for a strong co-op campaign, it's definitely one to check out.

LiquidSolstice, you should definitely rent... or heck, buy now since it should be cheap especially if used... Earth Defense Force 2017.

I had a blast playing this game in co-op. Most people will get the hang of it really quick. It's simple, straight-forward, corny (many lol moments). Good cheap fun.

To quote what the video reviewer says "If you like playing videogames for fun, rather than technical qualities, then you'll love this game."

And a Youtube comment: "This game rocks. EDF is to shooting what Tetris is to moving blocks. If you want to be all strategic and conserve ammo or pretend you're in a realistic war, do NOT buy EDF. If you like simple fun, explosions and cheese, GET EDF RIGHT NOW."

But other split-screen games I recommend you already have:

GoW2 (particularly enjoyed Horde mode, campaign was fun, too)

L4D (I don't have #2, yet)

RE5 Coop (I actually enjoyed this :o)

Borderlands (Another good game)

Fable II (Fun, but like someone mentioned above, it can get annoying, since your camera zooms out to have both of you on screen at once, and sometimes you can get stuck behind objects)

Got to be Gears of War or Rainbow Six: Vegas.

Me and my friend are constantly on the hunt for good co-op games, and those two series' were the only ones we enjoyed playing split-screen. You don't really have much choice, though. I'd stick with what you've already played - you've played all the decent offerings out there.

this is an area where the current generation really lets down

nothing like the old days of timesplitters, goldeneye, perfect dark, mario kart 64 etc.

that said..., borderlands is a must, and two i'll add that others havent are Unreal tournament and the Lego games eg lego start wars and lego harry potter is coming out soon - they're always a blast co-op

I'd say go for the first Army of Two. Army of Two: the 40th Day was epic fails.

I hated the controls, you seem to stick to everything and the storyline is mediocre at best.

1st one is the best, so definitely try that one out.

My buddy and I played through all of the levels in Left 4 Dead 2, and we had a blast. I definitely did not expect to enjoy that game as much as I did. Once you get over the ugly 360 graphics, it's a riot, and some parts took us quite a few tries, since it was two humans and two AIs. Seeing how you've already played Left 4 Dead, I'm guessing you already know what to expect though :).

I can't think of any others that you haven't already listed, though. I played through the Mercenaries mode in Resident Evil 5 with a friend, but we didn't go through the actual game together. Mercenaries was fun, but it was over quickly, and unless both of you are into high scores, I don't think it'll last very long.

Graphics of L4D2 look good on my 360. Then again, they are representative of Valve games, which they are not known for the best graphics.

"Ugly" was probably a little harsh. It's definitely jarring, though, moving from another game to L4D2. And in Valve's defence, they need to put a massive amount of enemies on the screen, and at least it runs smooth (I can't recall any performance issues from our splitscreen games).

Definitely agree with this...played EDF2017 with my bro and had a blast. I would equate it to a surprisingly good 'B' movie: it's cheesy, has low production values, but despite all this, it manages to be a fun ride!
