Motoko.
I saw this guitar with 6 strings that's currently in development for a new kind of game like Rock Band on ATOS Does anyone know the name? I really want to learn how to play the guitar so in combination with a video game, I think that'll be a kick ass motivator to keep practicing. EDIT: Maybe a mod wants to change the topic title?

Harreh
lol a video game will not help you play a real guitar. Buy a guitar and play it, it's the only way.

Having a game to go with it is like having pages of music to practice with.
MR_Candyman
Damn. They stole my idea (that I would never have had the money to make anyways). It would be easy to have the guitar have a built-in mic that will pick up the sound. It's easy to differentiate the different notes via software
metal_dragen Veteran Posted March 14, 2010 Veteran Share Posted March 14, 2010 I've heard something about this. Supposedly, you'll be able to get it with the above guitar, or buy the software with an accessory that will let you plug a real guitar into it. The basic idea is that you learn the guitar by playing the songs you want (including DLC a la Rock Band or Guitar Hero), and are able to do the standard learning techniques - slow tempo, rewind, repeat sections, etc. I just hope they provide some basic music theory as well. Learning how to play a song is all well and good, but without learning some theory, you won't be able to write much music yourself, if you're so inclined. I think it's a fantastic idea if implemented well. Whenever I walk by an electronic store and see crowds of people playing guitar hero or rock band, I can't help but facepalm thinking this is not real guitar why are you people watching the guy play if it's not real? DrunkenBeard
I've done something similar for one of my first year projects (computer science) : a guitar hero interface except you don't play with a plastic guitar but a real one that you plug into an amp and then the amp into the computer. The main problem I encountered was dealing with noise (solved eventually), and building a pitch recognition algorithm efficient enough to distinguish between a C and a C#. The final result was "playable" but too limited (no chords, no ho/po, no tapping, no slides) to be released. But it was fun to code nevertheless. I must add that it was done in C language with the SDL and FMod libraries. I think I'll pick it up again sometime and do it properly with XNA and some planning :D
