XBOX 360 or PS3?

Recommended Posts

1. See which game library satisfies your needs more

2. Determine if you want to watch Blu-ray movies or DVD movies

3. Do you want to pay $50 a year for XBL or do you want free PSN

4. Which consoles do your friends have/use most

5. Do you care about the NATAL or PS Motion, or have a preference for either?

I have all the consoles, though I play my 360 more.

On #3, understand that with both systems, you get what you pay for. If you're new to consoles, get the one that is going to allow you to borrow more games from the onset, so you can try them out from your friends and see what genres you are interested in, etc.

Of course the best option, as AWBrian said earlier, is to get both.

I agree. I know you get more with XBL (I prefer XBL over PSN). But some might just want that online connection to connect to other online gamers and don't care about any of the extras. I personally gotz to have my XBL. It's like crack to me. devil.gif

I have the best answer. GET BOTH. Therefore you can't agree or disagree. But in truth, I play my 360 more.

Ask yourself this:

Do I have a 1080p or 1080i TV and do I have a Bluray player?

If YES to both.

You should make your mind up on your own.

Playstation 3 has free online, but 360 has better things to do on Xbox Live.

XBox Live has ..XBox Live Kiddies.

Playstation 3 has Little Big Planet.

I play both equally.

If you don't have a 1080p / 1080i tv.. I wouldn't recommend the PS3, stuff just looks blurry as heck without it.

There are benefits to both system.

You need to see which plays out better for your wants and needs.

My wife and I found ourselves asking this question as well in mid November of 09. It really boiled down to graphics (PS3 from what I read is HDMI 1.3a where as the Xbox is HDMI 1.2 or something along those lines.) Then we looked at games which ones looked best to us, honestly the Xbox had more exclusives that piqued our interest so that was a plus for the 360. Finally we looked at overall usage, the PS3 is also a blu-ray player and that really caught our eye, also I'm an interenet fiend and PSN is free. I know people say well Xbox Live is so cheap and they're right it's cheap, but not cheaper than free. So in the end we went with the PS3 and could not be happier currently.

Save yourself the flame party. Buy both laugh.gif

Once you do that though, then it just becomes more nitpicking when it comes to multi platformers and just as annoying as looking for the best console.

From what I've gathered so far

Bayonetta: XBox 360 > PS3

Assassins Creed II: XBox 360 > PS3

Final Fantasy XIII: PS3 > XBox 360

Street Fighter IV: PS3 = XBox 360

EA Games: PS3 = XBox 360 (Not sure for this one)

All the rest comes down to platform exclusive titles which I believe the PS3 wins hands down.

I have yet to see a XBox 360 exclusive title that I REALLY enjoyed (PS: Will never play First Person Shooter's on a console - Thus reducing the top 10 list down to Gears of War... vs. PS3's God of War 3, LittleBigPlanet, Heavy Rain, MGS 4).

So it comes down to: XBox 360 for the best graphics for multiplatform games and PS3 for the best exclusive titles. Buy them both if you don't want to miss the best gaming experience. Otherwise, stick with your PC.

I'd get a 360. Better library, better online experience.

PC gaming is fine and dandy -- if you want the upkeep that goes with it (drivers, upgrades, etc).

In England at least, game prices is going to be your main concern as well.

?20-40 for PS3 games normally. ?5-40 for XBox 360. PC Games are cheapest (What with Steams amazing deals online - But you lose out on how much you need to pay for hardware). It still very much depends on the title. XBox 360 hardware is normally more expensive. Like the addition of the wireless network adapter would set you back easily another ?40-50 (Essential if you don't have LAN Connections everywhere). Whereby the PS3 you get a complete package (Though another controller would set you back ?30).

For me it's just the opposite. For me, the 360 exclusives win hands down. But I still get the exclusives from both.

Do you have any recommendations? I've been hard pressed to find any impressive non-FPS XBox 360 Exclusive titles.

I already have Gears of War and it is just mindless shooting so far... I don't understand what the rave about it was. Really getting into Mass Effect though.

I picked the Xbox 360 over the Playstation 3 because of the amount of friends that I have using Xbox Live. I enjoyed a few months of games such as Borderlands or Modern Warfare 2 with them, but recently I have grown tired of those games and have really been focusing on single player content. I now wish I picked the PS3 over the 360 for quite a few reasons.

Simply, pick which ever one you think you'll have the most fun on based on the content you wish to play.

Take a look at Alan Wake (not out yet and I'm pretty sure it's an xbox exclusive?) it might interest you :)

Apart from that try:

Fable (1 and 2 with 3 on it's way)

Crackdown (1 out and 2 on it's way)

Project Gotham Racing if you're a racer fan

And err... Viva Pinata? :p

I'm a PC gamer but if I had to buy a console, I would go for the PS3. Most of the A list games that come out for the 360 also launch on the PC while PS3 titles, such as Yakuza, Unchartered 1 & 2, Heavy Rain, Metal Gear Solid 4 and God of War 3, will never be released on the PC.

PS3 = Exclusive games + Free Online + Blu-Ray

360 = Games also launch on the PC

You having been a member here for 7 years and are probably knowledgeable in all the Xbox 360 exclusive titles, why should I list them again?

Best bet is to look look at the consoles, their functionalities, and the content avilable one each platform. Most important part is when you do some research is what do you want. Others can recommend but what they like might be different from what you like.

I am a PC gamer and stick with the PC platform keeping it upto date. I have brought a PS3 due to what it offered and what I wanted. It was a DVD/blu-ray player, a media center to stream movies and music to as well. Not all the time am I on the PC.

I had played the odd game on it but they were console exclusive at the time. The PSN was free so if I do decide to game online with a console exclusive game there would be no cost involved.

Xbox 360 if you want to play most games

PS3 if you also want to watch Blu-rays.

It's that simple. :)

Took a break from Neowin for almost 4 years, so 3 year from here. And only recently jumped in to buy a XBox 360 and PS3, so I wouldn't know the exclusives well. For the top exclusive titles that aren't first person shooters (Which really belongs to the PC and should have never moved [stupid Halo]).

PS3 has:

Heavy Rain, God of War 3, LittleBigPlanet, Demon Souls, and inFamous

XBox 360 has:

Gears of War, Viva Pinata, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Crackdown and Alan Wake

Each has their own fun moments and each are top notch games in their own right. It just comes down to preference.

Fable was on PC, and Halo 1 and 2 as well. Finished Fable 1, never finished Halo and don't plan to either.

Not really too interested in the racing games, but those you mentioned look interesting. Gears of War was ported to PC as well, so the sequel might have a chance as well (Though unlikely).

Fable 3 has not been released yet. All the other exclusive games such as the racing have fantastic alternatives on both the PS3 and PC, such as GTR 2, Need for Speed: Shift, GriD, Dirt 2, Test Drive Unlimited and Burnout: Paradise. Halo 3 is just a standard first person shooter that shouldn't warrant any superiority in 2010 since there are much better games out there today. Alan Wake has not been released yet while Heavy Rain has already come out. Please don't try to compete by stating that the 360 is superior due to its games.

I simply stated that for the best value, the PS3 is the economical way to go since it incorporates a Blu Ray player and features a full blown online experience without charging extra for more perks like the 360. It's simply up to what the OP desires. Does he want a gaming machine or a gaming machine that supports the latest media format for an extra $100?

XBox 360 has:

Gears of War, Viva Pinata, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, Crackdown and Alan Wake

Mass Effect 2 was also developed for the PC, which supports 1080p+ resolutions unlike its console counterparts.
