Cry Engine 3 demo at GDC

they didnt show anythin from on PC. Aren't PC's capable of much more?

Oh wait, they just showed very little, still looks good.

Isn't that what Cry Engine 2 is for?

How do you turn the video on full screen in the forums? Way to small to watch the 720p in embedded window.

double click on the title and watch it on youtube

I think it goes without saying anything you see in the video can and will also be done in the PC, and it some, actually most if not all, cases even better. Right now I would say their heavier focus on the consoles is because that is where I am assuming they can make the bigger bucks when licensing their engine.

They've given up on the PC. Crysis has been the running joke for a while.

This looks very good, hopefully it should set new standards for graphics on the PC, i mean.. lets face it, that was 85% of the hype for the PC release.

What are you going on about? Of course it will be on PC. The whole point of displaying how it looks on consoles is to show that their engine is a viable solution for consoles, which will allow more people to play the game.

It's a smart move, considering the amount of work they've put into this engine. Looks great too. (Y)

Is it bad that they're able to pull off on the consoles what was only possible for the PC two years ago?

Or is it actually threatening that the separation between console and PC is getting less and less?

I think it speaks volumes for their skill at optimizing the engine.

Crytek has done a GREAT JOB. The reason they entered consoles was because thats the thing to do this gen. But, they will ALWAYS be AWESOME in PC. idk what your talking about @Obi, but I STILL play crysis.

Its a game that a LOT of people want to play, but realize unless OnLive comes out, you need a GOOD COMPUTER to run the game. Thats why with this engine they are taking full force and releasing it on consoles so everyone can Enjoy Crysis, but at the same time, ill gurrantee you PC version will be 356466 better. They started off PC and i know there goal is to make the PC Copy the best of the best they can.

Metro2033 wont look like NOTHING against this game, Metro2033 is just a benchmarker basically. But Crysis was a GREAT game and good benchmarker for systems.

To my knowledge Crysis actually sold decently very well and turned profit, and the PC is still going to be the flagship platform for Crysis 2. Crytek has mentioned multiple times that the PC version will always be the best version, but they have come really far in making their engine scale to consoles. On that note probably half the people who pirated probably couldn't even run the game, so that's probably why they did it lol. Despite that, some of their potential profit was lost due to pirating though, so they are forced to include consoles in their business plan to bring in as many sales as possible, and maximize the benefits of their hard work.

100% agree

Yeah they've been working on porting the engine to consoles since Crysis came out, I'm glad they've finally got a working engine that looks marvelous

They claim it has "Destructible Worlds" and they show a few windows being shot out, is this supposed to be impressive? The original Half-Life could do that.

While I understand your point here, I think there's a copule ways to look at it

1) It's dumb footage that doesn't show much, the destruction of NYC is probably limited by the consoles' power

2) Does this mean EVERY single window on every building in NYC is breakable? That's pretty crazy haha

3) Perhaps there is a lot of destructibility that they aren't ready to show off yet, NYC looks like it's in shambles from the recent official screencaps floating on the net

On a side note. Procedural deformation sounds freaking awesome, I want to see more of that

Did you even watch the whole video? Not 3 seconds after the part you mentioned do they start destroying the environment.

Having it rain rubble from a destroyed building is pretty easy to miss :p

So why then pray tell did they bother to include such a boring piece of footage?

Nothing in regards to destruction looked particularly remarkable or slightly impressive.

Just because? I think you're over-analyzing the whole two seconds they showed.

Even if it were just windows that were destructible and they were able to recreate the entire new york city and every single window from the hundreds of buildings were destructible, that itself would be a pretty amazing feat

Not really, no.

The CryENGINE 2 techdemos were impressive, simple and effective. They demonstrated new features clearly, this on the otherhand looks like a mismash of generic gameplay that doesn't demonstrate anything in particular.

I brought up the windows because I thought it was rather silly to illustrate something that has been around for over a decade.

guys i checked out the engine in detail and the window thing has never been done before!!!

its not an animation..

it breaks differently every time u hit it..

it depends where u hit and what pieces fall first..

its not like a fixed animation..
