Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Recommended Posts

So, got home this morning after 12 hour shift and played. Next thing I know it's 930, need sleep. Now I'm up after only 5 hours of sleep and heading for more BC2. I don't care if my k/d is .30 dammit, this game is so damn addictive!

Anyway, what I'm curious about is if DICE has mentioned anything about new modes being released? I know there are maps coming because on the 360 you can see via the Store they have 'April' next to it. Not really sure what mode I would like but just curious.

Oh it's not like I'm sitting triumphantly in a corner throughout the entire round just raking in kills, I just don't do what the other drone-players do; kamikaze their way to the objectives to plant or whatever the objective at hand is. I take my sweet time, move around, look for the players and always, always provide backup for any players moving in on the objective. Though, that still makes me a kill-minded player. I do also go for objectives, if I manage to sneak up to an objective relatively unscathed I will do my utmost to blow up or defend it but I will never kamikaze my way through - I take it so slow and so cautiously you won't believe it.

As for your calculations, they aren't up to snuff because the amount of times you'll be killed on top of the current deaths you already have by exposing yourself at objectives will increase significantly plus the fewer kills that it also results. There's a reason why I'm always on top of the scoreboard in kills and points, not a joke, I've been on-top 100% of the time in the games I've played on the server I talked about because I take it so slowly and due to the amount of points there is in just killing and the ribbons / awards you get from it. The people who work together, go for crates to blow up or defend usually die a lot more and their point stream is greatly reduced. So no, you don't add objectives on top of anything as that'll skew the score completely.

So from my experience; being a DECENT Kill player will net you a lot more points, especially when being a solo player. Having to rely on random people would either make me go mad or have me waiting for an eternity until some decent players comes along.

So yes, I do my part by providing excellent cover fire and keeping the enemies at bay but to most people, that isn't good enough because I'm not a little Japanese kamikaze kid, gunning for crates constantly.

And to the people who complain I tend to tell them; get some friends and make a squad, it's the reason why it was created - You can't expect random people to just work together and "do their part", no game has ever worked like that and it definitely won't when there's so little incentive to actually do the objectives. I would love for DICE to add that incentive, up the points for doing objectives or give the winning team a significant bonus. At the moment, I don't give a rats ass whether we win or not or how far along we are because it makes NO difference.

Then ya, nothing against ya. Supporting your team through kills and when you can taking objectives that works.

My thing is I can get a high kill rate and take objectives. Think my best so far was taking B on Laguna Persa, ended up getting 8 kills solo, while taking it. I just knew the ways they would come up and could anticipate it. Not to mention some sneaky hiding places that have yet to be discovered there. :)

Problem is, some players do have an IQ above 3 and they will quickly adapt to your hiding spots or see the enemies dying right in front of them - So after your first kill, you get grenade-spammed, tubed and bullets will pour through every

orifice of the building. So obviously you can't apply it all as facts but you can measure out the average points you get and for me, personally, I found kills would net me the most because I did try and be an objective-######

and do my best but the points were so abysmal :/

Sethos, I agree with your points about being a Lone Wolf. Now, it's been my experience that if you can get into a good, solid squad that is most complete experience in terms of fun, score, and getting the most out of the game. The issue I have is that 1) most of my friends are playing MW2 or nothing at all and 2) it's hard to get random folks to buy-in. So I end up alone most of the time as well, even though I have the game put me in a squad!

My first objective is always protect my squad-mates, even if they aren't playing as a team. Just me being me I guess. So I always spawn on them, keep their backside clear, etc. But it also means a lot more deaths for me. Next, I try to go for crates or flags but because I have nobody else assisting, it's tough. My skills in the game aren't very good. One round I played recently the Defenders played it brilliantly. They got a great push and where our Deployment spot was they were surrounding the ways in so we never caught one single base. I want to play like that! So, I actually started playing similar to your style (albeit FAR, FAR, FAAAARR less in terms of execution). I take it slow, don't shoot as much, methodically move about the map, etc. I remember even in BF2, though, you could play the game how YOU wanted to. Want to stay back and defend flags, great! Want to kamikaze up the middle of Karkand! Great! Want to get into a squad and tactically take down your opponent? Great!

@ sethos - if you're supporting you're team i got no beef. It's the idiots who sit there and just snipe and or go in and camp near the objective just to get kills without making an effort to get it is what ****es me off. It's soo stupid, especially when you join a squad and all three of them are snipers.... I agree though, they need to give more points to players taking or making an effort to get the objectives. squad deatmatch is a lot of fun if you are on a good squad.

Exactly, well said :)

I have said it before, I would prefer a decent squad of friends and actively go for the objective(s) but that sort of wish requires 3 other people you care to play with and some people that actually has some clue of what they're doing. I currently have 0 friends playing the PC version, every single Dane I know plays the 360 version so that duck is already dead right there. The Danish server I'm currently making my 'standard' server has quite a few Danish players that might evolve into some squad-work at some point but they are all strangers and we don't know each other at all, so teamwork just doesn't happen whether we like it or not.

And like you, I do protect team-mates whenever possible - Mostly in my squad but I don't go out of my way and risk a death to protect some complete stranger. So yes, I want to play in that elite-squad sort of gameplay, that squad that annihilates everyone else but right now I have to settle for some solo-commando type which suits me just fine. (Y)

But I still think this game is perfect to 'play however you like it' and it promotes it very well, the only real problem is the whiny players that makes it a pain but you just have to tune out that noise and enjoy the game because it's a perfect squad game, perfect lone-wolf game, perfect lone-support game and perfect all-round, some people just want to force you into roles.

Word.

On that note, cannot get into any games on 360. Now, is this just EA being complete idiots at this point or what? They should have expected the load because even BF1943 caused their servers to overload. It just kills me to see a game like BF marketed as being a MW2 killer - so you would think EA would be ready and willing to accept a ton of people!! If you are going to call out another entity like they blatantly (and rightfully) have, then you need to back it up FFS.

I'm connected, however taking forever to search for games and when it does find one, i'm given a "Server Full" message.

I can connect on the PC ( Had issues earlier ) but servers are having massive lag-attacks despite decent pings :(

i've been reading around the web that the ping on the scoreboards are wrong, its lower then whats being reported, like A LOT lower.

That doesn't explain a decent ping and massive lag for everyone.

Wow, had two intense Rush round just now. Isla Inocents and Val Paradiso have a hell of a awesome atmosphere, they are my favorite maps now^^ And nothing beats the feeling that you get if you fire a laser guided rocket at a Black Hawk and it goes down with smoke and a front-flip :p

Engineer expert done. Next up is Recon. Only need 11050 points more and I'll have that also. Running mostly with shotty to get the points as I do not like either sniper available to me atm. Once I finish that I can start focusing completely on most points possible in a game.

And 360 crashes again.

I think the beauty of this game is people can play it so many ways. See me I am a rush to the objective and take it player, I play conquest to do just that, play conquest. Right now my kd ratio OS only .88 on the PC and it may very well get lower. I really could care less. What does tick me off is the skill level rating is all just kd ratio based. At least as far as I can tell that is all it is based on. While sure that is one skill, I am not a -12 as far as my overall skill on PC says. No way in hell. To me they really should have taken way, way more factors into consideration with the skill level. Like if I only play conquest, and I am consistently actually taking the objectives, I personally think that should be added to skill level.

With that said I'm personally lucky these days if I can play 10 hours during an entire week. While some people can play 10 hours in one day. So I'm long past stats having any sort of real significance. More.power to the people that do take it seriously though. I once was able to and when I could they meant a lot to me.

All I know is if I am part of a squad we will be a decent squad. But at the end of the day it is all about fun for me now.

I just unlocked the third rocket launcher thing for the Engineer class and it seems a bit worthless to me. :pinch:

I try shooting down a helicopter but a slow moving heli outruns the rocket. And then I try it on a tank, and if you aim it directly at the tank and then think "it'll just go in a straight line if I stop aiming" you'd be wrong. I did that and I see my rocket go spinning off into space. Sadly disappointed with that weapon. Maybe I'm just not using it right. It's a guided rocket for those that are wondering. Like a stinger or javelin (I think..I'm not up to date on my rocket launchers).

@Green: I think munky said earlier in this thread that he's waiting to build his new comp next month or this month and then he'll get this game.

Ah ok cool! (Y)

We lost maybe 3 times :p I had such a good time man, no doubt about it. (Y) Some of those pins you can get are just crazy. Still trying to figure out how I got the one for the XM8.Loved it when you kept bombing the heck out of that farm house at flag A on that one map. That was just insane. The way these structures drop is just funny, especially when there's people inside of them. lolLet me know when you're going on and I'll try to make it. Wont be until after 8:30PM EST though.

Haha I really went to work with the mortar's! I will see you on there dude!

spot on buddy. they DO NOT give enough credit to people who actually try to go for the objective, it's ridiculous. It's like the game rewards you for just sitting there and sniping or camping and racking up the kills. And i hear you on the time factor too, i clearly don't have enough time to play this game as muich as others are. Since release day im a just under level 4. The one day i did (release day) i couldn't play the game... I miss being able to game for hours on end :( I pretty much gave up on stats until i got CoD 6, but all i wanted stats for was to upgrade my m4 like crazy :)

yeah we were doing so good too. Stupid servers crashing.. But hey they will get it all sorted out..

Battlefield Bad Company 2 has managed to prove so popular that yesterday the concurrent users in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 surpassed that in Battlefield 2 which has been going strong for almost 5 years.

Thats great

Anybody else have issues with the Playstation 3 freezing while playing Rush mode? It has happened to me twice already. I can play Conquest just fine, but Rush mode just freezes my PS3.
