xFire is retarded or it just hates me and bc2

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I recently got Bad Company 2 for pc and its an awesome game and gives mw2 a run for its money, but thats not my problem.

My problem is I am trying to using crappy xFire to talk to friends on MSN, and AIM while I am in-game but xFire won't show up in-game I have no idea why it did a game support update and in the list it did not have BC2 listed but there is a ton of videos on xFires site from Bad Company 2 but I just can't seem to get it to work at all. I've googled it to get nothing helpful at all nothing even related to xFire not showing in-game in bc2, so I am all out of options so I've come here for the experts on Neowin to lend me a helping hand. Any help would surely be appreciated thanks guys.

EDIT: PC specs in my sig.

I believe this is because Bad Company 2 has the option to render in DX11, and automatically selects DirectX version based upon your OS and video card.

For all of us, we have DX11-capable rigs, and so BC2 is automatically running in DirectX 11. However, XIG is only flagged to render (and perhaps only coded to at this point) in a DX9 or DX10 environment.

If you wish to get XIG working you need to force BC2 to run in DX9 or DX10. Try going to

C:\Users\<user>\Documents\BFBC2Beta

and opening the file

settings.ini

In here, go to where it says "DxVersion=auto" and change 'auto' to '9' or '10' so that it reads

"DxVersion=9"

or

"DxVersion=10"

This will make it so that the next time you run Bad Company 2, it will render in the prefered DirectX version, and thus should be recognized by Xfire for use with the XIG.

To ensure that Xfire will now recognize it, go into Xfire and go to Tools > Options > Games. From this tab, select Battlefield Bad Company 2 on the left and then use the dropdown box on the right to select the DirectX version you changed BC2 to above.

I have done this myself and can confirm that it works. Enjoy!

If you go into the xfire options you can detect the games you have and see if that works but if your trying to use MSN and that stuff in-game I don't think xfire is right for you. Try playxpert- http://www.playxpert.com/web/guest/home

What do you mean? xFire may not be the greatest in-game chat client but it works for AIM MSN and other IM services no problems 90% of the time. But I'll be sure to check out the one you linked me to.

Thanks but if I have to use DX9 or DX10 then **** it I'd rather not i got a DX11 gpu for a reason.
