Joseph Zollo
Here's my little setup, I have my cable modem hooked into my linksys router via ethernet, and then the router connects to my computer. I recently found a little trick on my cable modem, if I plug in the USB Cable, I get a 2nd connection with a different IP address. Whenever I use the internet and any other application, it uses the ethernet connection, unless I disable it and leave the USB connection on. Local Area Connection = Ethernet Connection, need to use this to connect to network resources. Local Area Connection 2 = USB Connection, want to use this as my connection to the internet. Is there any way I can make the USB connection the primary connection without disabling the ethernet connection (as I need to for network resources). If you need more clarification, just give the word. Thanks in advance!
rezza Veteran Posted June 26, 2003 Veteran Share Posted June 26, 2003 can't you just plug the modem directly into your pc through usb, then use the router as just a network hub, so your pc effectively becomes the router? in other words, don't plug the router into the modem at all... thats the setup i have, apart from the fact that i have an actual hub, and not a router ;)
Joseph Zollo
I currently have DHCP enabled on the router because other computers are connected to it that need internet access.
