Sunspider Benchmarks:

SunSpiderResults.png

The image is itself very self-explanatory , but for your convinience we would like to inform you that this is Sunspider's Javascript Performance Benchmark , and here lower means better. As we already told , Opera 10.5 has won the Browser Benchmark war , but wait a second , it was 26 times faster than IE8 according to our benchmarks ,but here IE9 seems to be just a bit slower than Opera 10.5! That is really awesome for IE and its slow history.

Peacekeeper Benchmark

We were still not satisfied by these benchmarks. These were just insufficient to compare actual browser performance. Enters Peacekeeper. This is another benchmarking site by FutureMark (known for its benchmarking software for CPUs and GPUs). It comprises all tests which are play pivotal role in determining Browser Performance. Here we go:

To be fair enough , we took latest builds of all browsers (except Safari) and performed this benchmark. As we already knew , Opera is fastest browser , but we also saw that Firefox 3.7 Alpha 3 has come forth into this benchmark and holds a nice position. IE9 to our surprise has first time come so close to any of these browsers, that is really impressive for a , what should we call it , a pre alpha browser. It's just 30~40% slower than Firefox 3.7 Alpha 3 and might beat Firefox 3.6 Stable version.

Doesn't seem so bad for a test preview.. any idea when they will be ready for beta testing?

I'm surprised that Opera still crushes Chrome at performance.

It crushes Chrome on sites that actually work with Opera.

Crushes? Hyperbole much? It swings back and forth between Chrome 5 dev and Opera 10.50 in most tests I've seen. They might as well be even right now.

It'll be interesting to see the test results after Firefox gets JägerMonkey, which should speed up JS execution a fair bit again (SpiderMonkey/TraceMonkey is fast when it's in native code, but when it can't trace the JS it stays in the interpreter, JägerMonkey will cause it to always be in native code, jumping to even faster native code if it traces well)

It's great to see this competition though, they're all being sped up and we benefit as a result.

The only site that doesn't work well with Opera that I know of is Google Wave. And I switched from Firefox to Opera years ago.

Most tests I've seen show a clear lead for Opera. This surprises me considering Google's vast resources and expertise.
