DW Remote Host Access Denied

Question

Hello folks, first post here, just signed up. Hate to start off by begging for help, but I am gonna beg for help.

Dreamweaver has always worked fine. Was uploading to files to server with no problems at all. Out of the blue, I get "An FTP error occured, cannot open remote folder. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem."

There are no permission problems I am sure. I can log in all over the server except for the one directory I need to log into. In my remote info section, my host directory is listed as such: //my_site/web

When i hit test it connects no problem. When I hit ok and try and connect my site, I get the access error. I go back and look at remote info and the first / is gone. it now shows /my_site/web with one slash in start.

I cannot for the life of me figure this out. Why is one slash disapearing when I ok on edit site menu?

All I can offer is that about 10 mins bfore the problem happened, I had tried cloaking some files in the site. Could that in any way shape or form have anything to with this??

I use CS3, vista and can connect too all other parts of server with no problems. Just the directory I need to connect to won't let me. I have deleted site cache, recreated it....any help would be greatly appreciated. Where is my Slash going???

Thanks a ton in advance

Have you tried to see if you can get on with another FTP program like FileZilla? Testing with another FTP application will let you know if the problem is a setting specific to your Dreamweaver FTP or if it actually is with the server itself.

The directory you're trying to work in, do you have permission to it? Not chmod permissions, but rather is it showing that YOU own it and not say "99" or something?

Assuming you're on an Apache based server that is.

Wow thank you for some quick responses! I just downloaded filezilla and tried. All seems to go well, shows me connecting to a couple directories, then bam! Error: Disconnected from server: ECONNABORTED - Connection aborted

Error: Failed to retrieve directory listing

So, no it does not seem to work in other programs either. Sure is pointing to Server side, like cupcake is saying...I work in a school. The guy who maintains our servers had already gone home for weekend on friday. All was fine. I come home, start uploading some stuff, all is working fine. About a half hour of work later, I got the ftp access for the first time. Server admin has no clue what could have happened, he changed nothing.

Is it possible I did something, i.e. cloaking? that caused this? And btw the site works online no problem, so the directory must be there....

It would sure seem that permissions must be the problem....but nothing has changed with them...thank you again for responding you two!

Do you happen to have a firewall ? What kind of access have you given to filezilla or dreamweaver ? If you have given specific access try allow all access level and see if it works.

Hey there, just thought I would touch base and let ya know what's up. For some reason, my server admin tried doing the forward slashes in the remote info // as backslashes \\ and it got me in. I was like wtf. It has been // for years and years. I have no clue how // could all the sudden change to \\, and the admin doesnt know either, said something just made him try it lol.

So at any rate, I am in, thank you all for offering your time, and if anyone has any clue wth would cause that, I would love to know, just for the heck of it.

Cheers
