Website Opinion

Question

Hello,

I want to start doing some freelancing so i thought why not make a website...

Well I did and its almost complete...so i wanted to get neowins feedback on it, and whether you think i should make any changes or leave it the way it is.

Also, i must say that without jordan. it would be nowhere near completion...he was very helpful and i learned a few good tricks in CSS.

so check it out and let me know what you think.

I like the colours you've chosen, and also the white header stretching across the top.

Not sure about the white news and updates box which you have right below the menu system and above the content.

It's quite distracting and should in my opinion either be placed slightly on the right side, or at least made smaller.

Otherwise nice and simple layout (Y)

I agree, the news / updates box is what first hit me - Something more subtle would be better imo (Possibly another page purely for news and updates would work?)

But the design of the site is very smart, clear, easy on the eyes

Same as other guys. White box is annoying. Also, the buttons at the top could blend better with the top strip. It might even look better without the bezel on it.

The menu looks quite good, however toning down the background highlighting a bit on the buttons would make it look more solid ;)

also what are some ways i can get my name out there to start doin some freelancing work...i noticed online there r some websites but u have to sign up and pay as well to bid on projects...but it seems like even if i did that it stilll be hard to win projects as there is a lot of ppl that bid with good feedback...

Only thing i can say is what others have said.

The white news/updates box seems weird. like too white and it gets lost in the header background.

what u mean it gets lost? does it display correctly or are there some coding arreros that i havent noticed? or is it just the box itself that doesnt work too well?

I like it too, the news and updates box isn't that bad :)

Also, just work on improving your content's typography(#maincontent). Maybe the font is too big? Just a honest opinion :)

The white of the box merges with the white of the header.

I really like it.

I think a potential fix for the white box is make the drop shadow directly under the box (ie distance: 0), this will hopefully separate it a bit more from the light header. This will also create consistent lighting with your buttons.

I clicked on your dryicons link in your news box and now the link is white. You will need to define either a new style for #msgbox a:visited, or combine it into a #msgbox a:visited, #msgbox a:link to make the link colour always the same (being sure to keep it in that order)

I'm assuming the "Welcome to UV Designs" will be changed for each page, because at the moment it doesn't really make sense to keep it on every page. If the iconpack you're using has appropriate icons you can swap it out for page-specific headings. Like "(piggybank) Pricing" etc.

I'm not a fan of the red/blue links on the contact page (captcha area, specifically)

Try and get your portfolio images to line up in two columns. Unless you want to write something about each project along side.

The "TekMore" image on the homepage feels disconnected. Is it an ad? Is it an example of your work? I feel throwing a sub-heading above it would give it some clarity.

thx baines those r all great pointers and yes for the portfolio page i will be writing stuff along side im just waiting for those clients that i made the sites for to give me a short paragraph to put in with their experience they had...but the icons i will change...and the tekmor in the main page is my latest work so maybe a heading will prolly clear it up...thx again :)
