Microsoft Yukon 'Private' Beta Remains Day-To-Day

Recommended Posts

Microsoft is still trying like heck to get early Yukon code in the hands of a select band of testers.

Shipment of a small "private" beta for the next-generation SQL Server is "day to day," Stan Sorensen, director of SQL Server product management, told CRN Thursday.

The company had hoped to get this beta to about 1,000 close ISV, joint-development and other strategic partners by the end of June. CRN also confirmed that some testers recently received e-mail from Microsoft alerting them to a July code drop. See the Neowin.net site for the letter.

Yukon has been long promised and is way late. Microsoft stopped development on it for some time last year, redeploying resources to bolster security on shipping products. Earlier this year, Microsoft was trying to get this early beta out in partners' hands at TechEd in early June.

Instead, at that show, partners learned that final Yukon shipment had slipped into late 2004, rather than the first half of that year, as had been expected. (For more on the Yukon scheduling saga, see related story.)
